Red Raiders wrap up second weekend of conference play with home loss to Baylor.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech wrapped up its second weekend of Big 12 play with a tough 2-0 loss to Baylor at home. The Red Raiders had a rough time converting on several key opportunities to either tie it up, or, after Baylor's second score in the 82nd minute, get back into the game.
"We were in charge the whole game, but we missed chance after chance," said head coach Tom Stone. "This was easily the most dominant we've been against them [Baylor] in the past several years, but they got the three points and that's all that matters."
Three of the key chances Tech had were on breakaway runs, but each resulted in a save by Bears goalkeeper Jennifer Wandt.
"We had three [breakaways] and we missed them all," Stone said. "We've got to blame ourselves for that. It's on us to put those away."
Baylor opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Jackie Crowther corralled a loose ball just outside the six-yard box and knocked it in. The Baylor senior scored again in the 82nd minute when she lofted one over the head of Tech keeper Marissa Zucchetto from 18 yards out.
The Baylor defense clamped down on Tech in the midfield at times, but the Red Raider offense worked enough to create plenty of chances deep in Bears territory. This came primarily in the form of corners, of which the Red Raiders had 12 – including eight in the second half.
With the loss, the Red Raiders move to 1-2-1 in Big 12 play ahead of a trip to Stillwater to match up with No. 13 Oklahoma State on Friday, Oct. 5. First touch will be at 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Network.
