Red Raiders improve to 5-0 at home this season with second-half outburst.

LUBBOCK, Texas – A second-half offensive outburst Sunday evening helped Texas Tech remain undefeated at home this fall in addition to pushing them past Oregon State, 4-1. Ally Griffin, who picked up her first point of the season Friday with an assist, found the back of the net twice for the second time in her career.

Just two days removed from a 6-0 blowout of Florida International, the Red Raiders tallied four goals on Oregon State to bring the weekend goal total to 10. While the explosion of offense has seen positives – such as Tech converting on set-pieces – head coach Tom Stone insists the real challenge is carrying the momentum into next week's two-match swing in California and into Big 12 play.

Scoring was opened Sunday by freshman Cassie Hiatt, whose 12^th-minute goal marked her second of the weekend – and her career. Hiatt, who tallied her first collegiate goal on Friday's match with FIU, was assisted by Kirsten Davis. Davis found Hiatt down the right side, who, while running into the corner, delivered what appeared to be a cross that carried over the OSU keeper's head and into the opposite corner of the net.

For the second time this weekend, the Red Raiders scored within 10 minutes of the beginning of the second half. Griffin got the ball from Gabbie Puente, who played a season-high 52 minutes in the match, while cutting to the top of the box. Griffin plowed her way through two Beaver defenders before netting it in the right side of the net. Puente's assist was the first of her career.

Just over 10 minutes later, Gabbie's sister, Gwennie Puente, got in on the action. Gwennie's goal, like Hiatt's, was assisted by Davis, whose two assists are a new single-game high. Exactly two minutes later, Griffin was fouled in the box while going for her second score, which she would get when she converted on the penalty kick she was awarded. It was the second time Griffin netted two in one game, the other coming against Arizona State last fall.

With the match winding down, the Beavers spoiled the shutout with a goal in the 89^th minute. In addition to the late score, Tech keeper Marissa Zucchetto faced just one other shot all night, which she saved.

The Red Raiders will head back to California next week for their final two non-conference matches of the season. They will take on Cal State, Northridge on Thursday, before facing off with Loyola Marymount on Sunday.
