Morrow, who spent six years in the U.S. Navy, to fly the U.S. Flag for Saturday’s Celebrate America game.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells announced Thursday this week's captains as the Red Raiders return to the friendly confines of Jones AT&T Stadium for this first time in nearly a month to host TCU this Saturday at 11 a.m.
Of the 16 captains elected prior to the start of the season, Travis Bruffy and Terence Steele will represent the offensive side of the ball while Adrian Frye and Xavier Benson will represent the defense at midfield for the Red Raiders during the coin toss against the Horned Frogs.
Bruffy and Steele have been mainstays on the offensive line for the last four seasons. The duo have put together strong senior campaigns both in the run and pass game. At 167.9 rushing yards per game, the Red Raider offense is on pace for its fourth-highest average during the Big 12 era and its second-highest clip since moving to a spread offense in 2000. Through the air, Tech has surrendered only 11 sacks this season and none over the last two games.
On the other side, Frye has started eight of nine games this season in the defensive backfield, playing primarily at safety after earning Freshman All-America honors at corner in 2018. Benson, meanwhile, has started seven games this season and ranks third among linebackers in tackles.
Additionally, senior defensive lineman Broderick Washington Jr. will run out of the tunnel with the Texas flag, while sophomore offensive lineman Ty Morrow will carry the U.S. flag for Saturday's Celebrate America game. It will be an especially meaningful entrance for Morrow, who spent six years as a 2nd class petty officer in the U.S. Navy and was on active duty for four years and a reserve for two others before arriving at Texas Tech in 2018.
