Men's tennis falls to Oklahoma for second-consecutive year
LAWRENCE, Kansas - The No. 18 Texas Tech men's tennis team was defeated by No. 25 Oklahoma, 4-0, in the first round of the 2019 Big 12 Championship.
The Red Raiders drop to 15-11 on the year and 4-5 on neutral courts with Friday's loss.
After battling back-and-forth with the Sooners to begin the match, Tech would eventually drop the first point of the match by losing courts one and two at 6-3 and 7-5, respectively.
In doubles play, the Red Raiders fought furiously after dropping all of their first sets.
No. 79 Parker Wynn, who was defeated in his first set by a count of 6-1 and was at one point down four set points in his second, rattled off an impressive comeback by forcing a third set with a 7-5 second-set victory.
No. 108 Tommy Mylnikov also mounted a comeback of his own, after powering through to win his second set at a 6-2 clip to force a third.
Junior Bjorn Thomson, who was beaten 6-1 in his opening set on court four, brought his match to a second-set tiebreaker. However, the comeback efforts would fall short, as the Sooners would seize the match with wins on courts three, five and six.
Tech will head back home and have a week off before learning their postseason fate with the NCAA.com selection show, slated for a 6 p.m. start on Monday, April 29th. The show will be free to stream for fans.
