April 25, 2019 | Track and Field
Red Raiders back home to honor large senior class.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech track and field's second home meet of the outdoor season will take place Friday, April 26, featuring the recognition of 23 Red Raider seniors. The meet will be a scored triangular featuring Nebraska and Wichita State.
Â
Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Wes Kittley is excited for his first chance at a smaller, scored meet this season – one that he goes in with the goal of winning.
Â
"Coach Gary Pepin has done such a great job there for 40 years," he said. "I think he's the very best at dueling and participating in triangular meets. He loves it and is very good at spreading people out in every event. He's also my good friend, which will make it a fun time."
Â
Spread throughout the meet wearing the Scarlet and Black will be 23 seniors who, regardless of where their collegiate careers started, chose to round them out in Lubbock. The men's seniors have racked up a combined 31 All-American performances, while the women's side generated six All-American performances at Tech and 13 overall. The senior women also include the lone national champion graduating in the form of Zarriea Willis.
Â
"I'm excited to honor these 23 seniors," Kittley said. "We have a nice award to give each of them, and a lot of their parents will be here, so it'll be a fun night."
Â
"It still hasn't really hit me yet that I'm a senior," said Charles Brown, who in his four years as a Red Raider has been named an All-American 11 times. "I'm excited, though, because I know I still have time left and we're not done achieving what we want to achieve yet."
