Texas Tech Volleyball Set for No. 13 Iowa State

LUBBOCK, Texas –  The Texas Tech volleyball team is set for its first road trip of the 2020 season this weekend as it heads to Ames, Iowa to face off with No. 13 Iowa State. The two-match series takes place Friday and Saturday at Hilton Coliseum.

LAST YEAR VS. THE CYCLONES
Texas Tech set another bar last year as it earned its first season sweep over Iowa State for the first time since 2004. The Red Raiders opened up the 2019 season series with a 3-1 win over the Cyclones in Ames, Iowa, on Oct. 19 before posting an identical win at home on Nov. 20.

Texas Tech is coming off a split in their opening weekend against West Virginia. The Red Raiders swept the Mountaineers, 3-0, in their first match of the season before coming up short, 3-1, in the second match of the back-to-back series.

RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
• Texas Tech's season-opening sweep of the Mountaineers was the Red Raiders' first sweep in a conference opener since 2002.
• Through one weekend of play, Red Raider libero Emerson Solano leads the Big 12 in digs per set with a 5.17 average. Lindsey Dodson also cracks the top five, averaging 3.71 digs per set. As a team, Tech ranks first in the conference with 15.57 digs per set.
• Senior Allison Bloss had a strong opening weekend against the Mountaineers. Bloss recorded 15 kills on the weekend on a .500 hitting percentage which ranks fifth in the Big 12. She also recorded nine total blocks on a 1.29 blocks per set average that is currently second in the conference.
• Washington State transfer Reagan Cooper recorded 17 kills on the weekend, which is tied for the team lead through two matches. It was a strong debut for the sophomore, who also added three blocks in both matches.
• Texas Tech volleyball's Brooke Kanas was named to the 2020 All-Big 12 Preseason Team, announced by the league Monday. The nod marks the second straight year that Kanas has been named to the preseason squad. Kanas made quite an impact in the team's opening weekend, recording a team-leading 17 kills on a .455 hitting percentage along with four blocks.
• Through two matches, Red Raider setter Alex Kirby ranks fourth in the Big 12 averaging 11.29 assists per set. Kirby recorded the first double-double of the season on Friday against West Virginia, turning in a career high 11 kills on a .611 hitting percentage, along with 48 assists.
