Red Raiders To Begin Official Practice on Wednesday
October 13, 2020 | Men's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – This is happening.
The Texas Tech men's basketball team will begin official practice on Wednesday as they continue to prepare for the start of the 2020-21 season. The team's game schedule has not been announced, but the NCAA has set Nov. 25 as the first day the season can begin. The schedule will be posted on TexasTech.com when it is finalized.
Under the leadership of Chris Beard who is entering his fifth season, the Red Raider roster includes seven returners and seven newcomers. Marcus Santos-Silva is the team's lone senior, while Kyler Edwards, Jamarius Burton, Avery Benson and Mac McClung are juniors which gives Tech five upperclassmen. The sophomore class includes Terrence Shannon, Jr., Kevin McCullar, Clarence Nadolny and Joel Ntambwe while the freshman class is made up of Tyreek Smith (redshirt), Micah Peavy, Chibuzo Agbo, Nimari Burnett and Vladislav Goldin.
Programs throughout the country can begin preseason practice on Wednesday and will have 42 days to conduct a maximum of 30 practices. During this time, players can work out up to 20 hours per week, four hours per day, and must have one day off per week. This model is generally consistent with the normal preseason practice period but permits additional flexibility for all teams to begin full practice on Wednesday, regardless of when their first scheduled game occurs.
