Red Raiders off to College Station for second race of season.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech's second and final meet of the regular season will take place Saturday at Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational.
The Red Raiders will be looking to build upon their first race of the fall, an eighth-place worthy race against a heap of Big 12 schools at Oklahoma State two weeks ago. This weekend, Tech will go head-to-head with hosts Texas A&M as well as Arkansas, Baylor, LSU, TCU, Texas and UT Arlington.
"This is a great meet to get us ready for the Big 12 meet," said head coach Jon Murray. "We want some PRs and to be able to develop here. Then we'll be ready for conference in a couple of weeks."
Freshmen led the way for the men's squad on Oct. 3 at the Cowboy Jamboree. This week, the Red Raiders will get the return of Luke Estes, who scored at the Big 12 Championships last season. Exciting freshman signee Owen Likins will make his collegiate debut. On the women's side, Binta Ka and Jazmyn Martinez will look to build upon their solid openings two weeks ago in Stillwater.
With this being the last meet before the Oct. 30 Big 12 Championships, Murray would like to see his team take one last step in College Station before the conference meet.
"We want to show the work we've done is paying off," he said. "It's such a bizarre year, but we want to show their bodies have been adapting and they can handle competition better. We started slow, but we've really gotten kick started here these last 10 days. We want that to show."
The men's 8k will begin at 9:30 a.m. to be followed by the women's 6k at 10:15 a.m. Live results will be available via Flash Results.
