Red Raiders Head to Austin to Face No. 1 Texas

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raider volleyball team hits the road this weekend to face top-ranked Texas. The weekend series begins Thursday at 7 p.m., with the second match of the weekend set for 6 p.m.

RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
• Last week, the Red Raiders put up a tough fight against No. 2 Baylor, taking the Bears to five sets on Friday--the first time Tech had taken multiple sets from Baylor since 2018--and losing a tough, 3-0 match on Saturday.
• Texas Tech has split its first two road trips of the season, going 1-1 against then-No. 13 Iowa State and TCU. Against the Cyclones, Tech dropped a 3-1 match before coming out with a 3-2 win to finish the weekend. The win marked the Red Raiders' first ranked road win since Sept. 19, 2018, when they knocked off No. 19 Baylor in Waco, Texas. Against TCU, the Red Raiders opened the weekend with a 3-2 loss before winning the final three sets of a four-set battle with the Horned Frogs last Friday.
• Through two weekends of play, Red Raider libero Emerson Solano ranks third in the Big 12 in digs per set with a 4.31 average, trailing only Iowa State's Izzy Enna and TCU's Dani Dennison. As a team, Tech ranks fourth in the Big 12 at 14.73 digs per set.
• Senior Allison Bloss has had a strong start to her final season in scarlet and black, recording 1.67 kills per set on a ..402 hitting percentage that ranks second in the Big 12. She is also averaging 0.97 blocks per set which is currently tenth in the conference.
• Senior Samantha Sanders recorded her best weekend of the season so far at TCU, recording a pair of 20-kill performances in Fort Worth. Sanders posted 24 kills with a .364 hitting percentage in the four-set win over the Horned Frogs. She also added 12 digs in the victory, which marked her second double-double of the season. Averaging 3.19 kills per set this season, Sanders ranks ninth in the Big 12.
• Texas Tech volleyball's Brooke Kanas was named to the 2020 All-Big 12 Preseason Team, announced by the league Monday. The nod marks the second straight year that Kanas has been named to the preseason squad. Kanas has made quite an impact so far for the Red Raiders, and is one of three players averaging over 2.0 kills per set so far this season.
• Sophomore Caitlin Dugan has had a strong start to her second season at Tech, averaging 2.68 kills per set to rank second on the team. She has twice tied her career high in kills this season with 17 at both Iowa State and TCU.
• Through six matches, Red Raider setter Alex Kirby ranks fifth in the Big 12 averaging 9.94 assists per set. Kirby has recorded a trio of double-doubles so far this season, including 52 assists and a career high 19 digs, along with four kills and three blocks in the win over the 13th-ranked Cyclones. Her last double-double was a 51-assist, 12-dig performance in the five setter at TCU.
• Texas Tech's season-opening sweep of the Mountaineers was the Red Raiders' first sweep in a conference opener since 2002.
