Red Raiders look to build upon strong conference finishes last year.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech cross country is primed for this year's Big 12 Championships, set to be hosted in Lawrence, Kan. The Red Raiders are looking to build upon a pair of fifth place finishes from last fall.
"We're going there to get experience," said head coach Jon Murray. "COVID has really put a damper on our training this year, so this meet and season are about development. We want to get in there and compete and be at the Big 12 meet so they can see what it takes and have their eyes opened to see what they can do in the future."
Tech's men's roster will consist of Bennett Barnett, Luke Estes, Cornelius Kiprotich, Owen Likins, Eric Maclean, Edward Rush, Paul Sherrill, Richard Taylor, Thomas Velvin and Kirk Zuber. Kiprotich will be Tech's highest returning finisher from last year's fifth-place team, looking to improve upon his 18th-place individual crossing.
Binta Ka and Jazmyn Martinez will lead the women's group, which turned in its best finish in eight years last fall. Running with the duo up front will be Kaitlyn Irving, Hanna Sanchez, Sydney White and Kyra Young. Ka will return with the goal of jumping up from her 43rd-place mark last fall.
The Big 12 Championships will commence at 10 a.m. Friday with the women's 6K. The men's 8K will be run at 11 a.m. Live results will be available here.
