Tech Returns Home to Host No. 9 West Virginia

Red Raiders look to defend home turf against top-10 Mountaineers.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech is set to play host to No. 9 West Virginia Friday in a Big 12 matchup at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
In addition to defending The Walker on Friday, the Red Raiders will be seeking their first win of the 2020 season. The mood around the Tech locker room is focused on continuing the excitement brought on by scoring two goals on the road at Oklahoma last weekend. Charlotte Teeter knocked in both in the draw, providing the offense a ball in the back of the net for the first two times this season. Both of the junior's goals came with Tech down one, including one in the 89th minute force overtime. She was recognized as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week.
To Teeter, moments like that help create a team's identity.
"Obviously we wanted three points," said Teeter. "We always go out wanting a win. Coming from behind twice instills some identity. We know we can come from behind as a team."
She continued, "This team is young, and seeing that we're never out of a game will instill confidence."
Teeter's 89th-minute equalizer came off her head via a pinpoint cross from Kirsten Davis. Davis' assist puts her at 15 in her career, moving her into seventh in program history. One more would tie her with former All-American Janine Beckie's 16 from 2012-15.
Ninth-ranked West Virginia will prove a tough opponent for the Red Raiders. The Mountaineers are 3-1-0, their only loss coming on the road to No. 6 Oklahoma State. They have outscored opponents in their wins 8-2.
"West Virginia has been at or near the top of the Big 12 since they came into the league, so we know what we are dealing with," said head coach Tom Stone. "We have gotten better each week and are excited to have such a quality game at home this weekend."
Stone's squad beat the young Mountaineer team in Morgantown last year for the first time in program history. Hannah Anderson's penalty kick in the 71st minute sealed the deal as the Red Raider defense picked up another one of its eventual 10 shutouts last year. Friday, Tech will be searching for its second shutout of the season.
First touch will be at 7:15 p.m. and streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. Tickets are available for purchase here. Attendance will be limited to 25 percent capacity.
