Texas Tech will be the highest-ranked program in the 14-team field when play begins Monday
LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 16 Texas Tech will face another challenging field this week when the Red Raiders head north for the Illini Collegiate Invitational hosted at the Medinah Country Club, one of the country's most prominent courses located just outside of Chicago.
Â
The Red Raiders, coming off a third-place showing this past week at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Arkansas, head to Medinah for only the second time in history as Tech previously came in eighth during its 2019 trip to the Chicago area.
Â
The strong performance in Arkansas moved the Red Raiders up to No. 16 in the latest Golfweek Magazine poll, making Tech the highest-ranked program in the 14-team field that also features No. 20 Georgia, No. 21 Oklahoma, No. 22 San Jose State and No. 30 Purdue.
Â
Head coach JoJo Robertson will take three members of her 2019 lineup back with her this week as Tech will rely on the experience from senior Amy Taylor, junior Anna Dong and sophomore Gala Dumez. Taylor was Tech's second-highest finisher in 2019, ending the event in a tie for 24th.
Â
The trio will be joined this week by a pair of freshmen in Chiara Horder and Chelsea Romas. Horder has appeared in all three events this year after beginning her collegiate career by tying for fifth at the season-opening Sam Golden Invitational. Romas, meanwhile, was in the lineup for Tech's first two tournaments, missing only the Blessings Invitational.
Â
The two-day, 54-hole event will begin with an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start Monday morning with Tech paired with host Illinois as well as Georgia. Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament at Golfstat.com.
