Texas Tech Looks to Build Off Title at BYU Classic
March 14, 2021 | Women's Golf
Red Raiders will be the highest-ranked program this week in the 14-team field
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team resumes its spring slate Monday at the BYU Spring Classic hosted at the Sand Hallow Golf Course in Hurricane, Utah.
Â
As a team, the Red Raiders last competed in an event hosted by BYU at the Entrada Classic in spring 2019 where Tech finished in second place, while Sofia Garcia set a program record of 8-under-par 64 in the final round. This will the first time the team has competed at the Sand Hallow Golf Championship Course.
Â
Tech is coming of its first team title of the season last week and its first since 2019 as the Red Raiders used a strong final round to claim the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational hosted in San Antonio. Garcia ran away with the individual title, finishing 10 strokes better than the rest of the field for her school-record fifth medalist honor of her career. Her five individual wins moved Garcia past former teammate Gabby Barker into sole possession of first all-time in the Tech record book.
Â
Garcia and the Red Raiders will look to continue that success this week when round one action begins with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start Monday. Tech will play 36 holes on Monday followed by a similar start time for Tuesday's final round.
Â
Tech is the highest-ranked team and the only program from the Big 12 competing among the 14-team field as the Red Raiders moved up to No. 32 in the latest Golfstat rankings following their win last week in San Antonio.
Â
Live coverage will be available throughout the BYU Spring Classic via Golfstat.com.
