Red Raiders claimed their 15th tournament title under JoJo Robertson after snow canceled final round
LUBBOCK, Texas – The final round of the BYU Spring Classic was canceled Tuesday, giving Texas Tech its second-consecutive tournament title after the Red Raiders combined to shoot 5-over-par over two rounds Monday at the San Hallow Golf Course.
Â
This the second tournament title of the season for the Red Raiders, who awoke to snowy conditions Tuesday in Utah. It is the 15th team title under JoJo Robertson, which was already the most for a head coach in program history.
Â
The Red Raiders topped Iowa by three-strokes to win their second tournament in as many weeks after firing a 3-over 291 opening round Monday followed by a 2-over card in the afternoon. Tech had nearly 20 strokes over the rest of the 14-team field as Nevada finished in third place at 24-over between the two rounds.
Â
Tech had consistency throughout its lineup with three players ranked among the top-10 individuals as Sofia Garcia finished in a tie for third at even-par, while Cecilie Nielsen and Gala Dumez were both 2-over and in a tie for sixth place. Anna Dong closed the tournament just outside the top 10 in a tie for 12th at 4-over, while Amy Taylor and Louisa Brunt finished tied for 21st and 26th, respectively.
Â
The Red Raiders have only two tournaments remaining prior to playing in the Big 12 Championships in April. Tech will first take part in the Bruzzy Challenge in Dallas from March 28-29 before traveling for the Houston Oaks Invitational on April 12-13. The Red Raiders are back in Houston that next week for the conference tournament April 18-20.
