Tech Falls on the Road to North Texas

The Mean Green defeated the Red Raiders 25-23, 25-22, 25-17 in Denton.
DENTON, Texas – The Red Raiders fell in three sets to North Texas on the first leg of their DFW trip Wednesday evening in Denton.
North Texas (9-9) took the match 25-23, 25-22, 25-17. Texas Tech (7-13) drops to 4-8 on the road this season.
The Mean Green used a six-point run to take a 9-5 lead in the first set before the Red Raiders used a four-point run to tie things up at 14 all. After trading the next several points North Texas called a timeout with the match tied at 23. The Mean Green tallied the next two points to take the first set off an ace from Valerie Valerian.
After a back-and-forth start to the second set that saw both sides locked at 12, the Mean Green put together a run to take a five-point advantage and force a Texas Tech timeout at 20-15. North Texas then stretched the lead to six after a block, but the Red Raiders refused to go away. Tech used a 6-1 run to get within a point of tying, leading to a North Texas timeout at 23-22. Mirroring the first set, the Mean Green came out of the timeout focused, tallying the next two points to close out the second set.
North Texas dominated the third set, using a 6-0 run to take an 18-9 lead. The Red Raiders attempted to mount a comeback late in the match with a four-point swing, but it was too little too late. The Mean Green claimed the final set 25-17 to complete the sweep.
Reagan Cooper tallied her third double-digit kill performance in the last four matches with a team-high 10 kills.
