Texas Tech off to Baylor for Michael Johnson Invitational.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will head to Waco for the Baylor-hosted Michael Johnson Invitational, set to run Friday and Saturday.
"We've got a month until conference after this weekend," said head coach Wes Kittley. "I like to see things coming together around a month out. This meet is always a top meet. Nearly the entire Big 12 will be there, plus Texas A&M. It's almost going to be a mini-Big 12 meet. We'll have everything we need there to compete and get after it."
Tech will travel 63 student-athletes to Waco. Among them will be Sara Limp, who ran sub-53 in the 400m for the first time since 2018 at last week's home Masked Rider Open. Sylvia Schulz, who made her anticipated debut in the 400mH in Lubbock and ran 59.37 alongside Lexye Price, who has run sub-59 twice this season. D'Jenne Egharevba made her individual debut in the 100m and ran on a Tech 4x100 that clocked 44.15 – the women's program's fastest time since 2012. Seasons Usual will travel after a monstrous PR in the discus that moved her up to second in the country.
Sprinters Jacolby Shelton and Courtney Lindsey will come along for the men after strong outings at home. Shelton opened his outdoor campaign anchoring the men's 4x100 to the 12th-fastest time in the nation at the Masked Rider Open. Lindsey, who ran the second leg on that relay, began his outdoor campaign the week prior at Baylor, where he PR'd in the 100m with a time of 10.33. Keion Sutton was right there in Waco PR'ing alongside Lindsey, running 10.35. Takieddine Hedeilli will come along for his first road trip of the outdoor campaign after anchoring one of Tech's three 4x400 relays last weekend. Terrence Jones, who ran 20.97 in his individual debut as a collegiate sprinter, will also travel.
The Baylor-hosted Michael Johnson Invitational will run April 16-17.
