Lady Raiders Drop Home Finale to No. 10 Baylor

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team dropped the final match of the regular season on Sunday, falling to No. 10 Baylor, 4-0, at the McLeod Tennis Center.

The Lady Raiders (15-7, 6-3 Big 12) put up a hard fight in doubles play to open the day, with Margarita Skriabina and Olivia Peet winning, 6-2, on court two over Baylor's Jessica Hinojosa and Kris Sorokolet for the first win of the day. The pair moved to 4-1 overall this season when playing together.

After the Bears won on court two, the doubles point came down to the match on one where Lady Raiders Lisa Mays and Kaitlin Staines were in a battle with No. 28 Mel Krywoj and Angie Shakhraichuk; however, Baylor came up with the 6-4 win to take the point and lead, 1-0, heading to singles.

Baylor got off to a hot start in singles and would pick up wins on courts six, one and five to clinch the victory.

As the match was clinched, the Lady Raiders were led by Margarita Skriabina, who was leading, 1-0, in the third set on court three, and Kaitlin Staines, who led, 5-2, in the second set while trying to force a third on two. Nell Miller was also in a tight second frame and trying to force a third.

The Lady Raiders finished the Big 12 schedule with a 6-3 record, which is good for No. 3 in the final conference standings—outpacing their preseason poll spot of No. 4.

The Lady Raiders will await their opponent and match time for next weekend's Big 12 Tournament in Waco, Texas. Tech will play their its quarterfinal match on Friday, April 23 at either noon or 3 p.m.
