Lady Raider Tennis Gears Up for Big 12 Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team travels to Waco, Texas, this weekend to compete at the Big 12 Tennis Championships at the Hurd Tennis Center. The third-seeded Lady Raiders open play at the event on Friday at noon against No. 6 seed Iowa State.

LADY RAIDERS AT THE BIG 12 TOURNAMENT
In recent years, the Lady Raiders have recorded a number of deep runs into the Big 12 Tournament, advancing to the title match four of the last five years. Texas Tech took home its first Big 12 Tournament championship in 2017, when the team knocked off Oklahoma State, 4-2, in Norman, Okla. Competing as a No. 3 seed in this weekend's tournament, it marks the Lady Raiders' highest seed at the event since 2018. The team will look to bring home its second Big 12 Tournament trophy this weekend.

ABOUT THE LADY RAIDERS
Texas Tech enters the postseason with a 15-7 overall record and a 6-3 Big 12 mark that is good for third in the final Big 12 standings. The Lady Raiders are coming off a pair of hard-fought top-10 losses to No. 2 Texas and No. 10 Baylor to wrap up the regular season last weekend. The team is ranked No. 29 in the latest ITA rankings, and boasts a couple of ranked singles players in No. 77 Margarita Skriabina and No. 108 Kaitlin Staines. Staines and Lisa Mays also appear in the ITA doubles rankings, coming in at No. 47 this week.

A DEEP CONFERENCE
This year's Big 12 Men's and Women's Tennis Championship features a combined 13 teams ranked in the latest ITA rankings. On the women's side, seven programs appear in the rankings: No. 2 Texas, No. 9 Baylor, No. 23 Oklahoma, No. 29 Texas Tech, No. 35 Oklahoma State, No. 38 Iowa State and No. 48 Kansas. Additionally, all six men's programs are ranked: No. 2 Texas, No. 3 Baylor, No. 7 TCU, No. 18 Oklahoma State, No. 26 Oklahoma and No. 21 Texas Tech.

This year's women's tournament features 18 women's players ranked in the latest ITA singles rankings, as well as nine doubles teams represented in the ITA women's doubles rankings.
