April 23, 2021 | Track and Field
Red Raiders get weekend underway with throws while All-American Hedeilli runs first outdoor race.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Takieddine Hedeilli began his outdoor season at the Drake Relays and downed the school 1500m record in the process.
Hedeilli, running at the historic Drake Relays in Des Moines, began his outdoor season in the 1500m and broke a 21-year old school record. The indoor All-American in the 800m timed 3:41.60 in a rabbitted heat to finish fourth. The time breaks Gezachw Yossef's 3:41.97 set at a meet at Stanford in 2000.
Back in Lubbock, Usual began the Texas Tech Open with her second-best discus mark of her career. At 188'-3" (57.38m), the mark would stand as the eighth-best in the country this year if she was not already ranked third. Her third-ranked throw – a lifetime-best coming in at 195'-10" (59.70m) and set at the Masked Rider Open two weeks ago – makes her one of three in the NCAA this year to throw over 59 meters.
Oladipo's discus mark landed at 186'-0" (56.71m) and counts as the third-best of his career. This is his fourth time this season throwing over 56 meters. He has also thrown 57 and 58, the latter of which came at the Baylor Invitational and has him ranked seventh in the NCAA.
Callie Jones and Kaylee Hinton competed in a two-person javelin competition. Jones came away with a top throw of 132'-6" (4.40m). Hinton's landed at 115'-8" (35.26m).
Day two of the Texas Tech Open will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday with field events. Running events will start at 5 p.m. Live results will be available here.
