
Texas Tech to Host UTEP, ACU Friday for Home Opener

Tech will clash with the Miners at Noon, and the Wildcats at 4 p.m.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis program returns to action Friday when UTEP and Abilene Christian visit the McLeod Tennis Center for a pair of duel matches at Noon and 4 p.m.
Tech returns home after opening its 2022 spring season at the Torero Classic in San Diego last weekend. Led by Margarita Skriabina, the Red Raiders took home both the individual top singles title and the overall team title. Skriabina defeated three ranked opponents and was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week back on Tuesday.

Skriabina opened the weekend with a bang, rolling past No. 21 Alexandra Yepifanova of No. 17 Stanford in straight sets (6-2, 6-4). Saturday, the Russian backed it up with a one and three victory over No. 22 Petra Hule from 15th-ranked Florida State.
On Sunday, the sophomore sealed the perfect weekend and the top single draw titles with a hard fought 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-6) victory over No. 44 Solymar Colling of San Diego. Skriabina is now 22-2 in her last 24 competitive matches including winning the Big 12 No. 3 Singles Championship a season ago.
