Lady Raiders to welcome JSU, Colorado

The games are part of the Preseason WNIT Tournament
LUBBOCK, Texas – Following an eight-day hiatus, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders return to action this week for the Preseason WNIT Tournament.
The week includes three games against Jackson State (Tuesday), Colorado (Wednesday) and at Louisiana on Sunday. Both JSU and Colorado made the NCAA Tournament in 2021-22.

THE LAST TIME OUT:
Powered by an epic 22-3 second quarter and a 38-8 run, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders downed Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 69-49 Tuesday, in front of a strong crowd on opening night of the college basketball season.
Texas Tech (1-0) was led by a trio of newcomers, as Houston transfer Jazmaine Lewis, Bailey Maupin and Katie Ferrell all shined.
Lewis was Tech's leading scorer on Tuesday night, as the post player dropped a career-high 15 points and added 7 rebounds.
Lewis was 6-for-8 from the floor in her 17 minutes of action. Maupin was the next Lady Raider in double figures. The freshman had 11 points in her nearly 17 minutes of action.
The final newcomer to shine in the opener was UT Arlington transfer Katie Ferrell who had a typical Big Kat performance (five points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists).
Sophomore Rhyle McKinney continued her strong start her second season in the Scarlett and Black, scoring 11 points on perfect 5-of-5 shooting.
With the victory, head coach Krista Gerlich improves to 3-0 all-time in season openers at Texas Tech, while as a program, the Lady Raiders won the home opener for the fifth consecutive season.
BEHIND ENEMY LINES:
• The Jackson State Lady Tigers enter Tuesday's game having lost back-to-back games against Power Five opponents. JSU opened the season at the No. 12 UNC 91-59. In that game, Jackson State was outscored 53-20 in the first half. Guard Jariyah Covington had 19 points on perfect 3-of-3 shooting while 6'5" center Angel Jackson scored 7 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
• On Saturday, JSU opened Preseason WNIT action by falling at Colorado. After trailing by just six at the halftime break, the Lady Tigers were outscored 48-30 in the final 20 minutes of action. In that game, Covington managed just 7 points on 1-of-13 shooting.
• In the preseason SWAC poll , Jackson State was tabbed as the preseason favorites, while Daja Woodward was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Woodward and Miya Crump were tabbed first team all-conference selections.

The Lady Raiders close out the Preseason WNIT with a road date Louisiana. Tip-off from the CAJUNDOME is set for 4 p.m. on Sunday.
