STARTERS
Texas Tech will take a break from Big 12 play and conclude its six-game homestand with a pair of games against Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Red Raiders will look to rebound from their first regular season home loss since May 20, 2021 (vs. Kansas), dropping the Sunday finale to then-No. 2 Texas after clinching the series in dramatic fashion on Friday and Saturday in front of a sellout crowd.
Chris Sylvester will call the game while Mike Gustafson will provide color commentary from inside Rip Griffin Park as coverage will be provided via Big 12 Now on ESPN+. The broadcast can be accessed from any desktop or laptop computer, any personal cellular device and television streaming services using the ESPN app. Registration for the subscription service can be found at ESPNPlus.com.
Texas Tech Sports Network will also broadcast the game over 46 affiliates throughout the state of Texas and New Mexico as Geoff Haxton will have the call alongside analyst, Jamie Lent.

MOVING UP
The Red Raiders' series win against Texas made a splash with voters in the national polls. Already ranked a consensus Top 25 team entering last weekend, Tech has jumped into the Top 10 of all six major ranking systems. Tech's highest ranking is No. 4 (Perfect Game) and its' lowest is No. 7 (D1Baseball & Baseball America). Tech's biggest jump came in the Baseball America poll, skyrocketing from No. 23 to No. 7.Â
BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Texas Tech junior-transfer Andrew Morris was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, the league announced on Monday. It was Morris' first career weekly award from the Big 12. The right-handed pitcher threw six innings in Texas Tech's Friday night, extra-inning victory over Texas. He allowed one run in the start, surrendering a leadoff home run to the game's first batter. The Colorado Mesa transfer settled down to strike out seven and keep the Longhorns off the board for the remainder of his outing to put the team in a position to win the first of two games in the series.Â
SCOUTING - STEPHEN F. AUSTIN
- Stephen F. Austin is located in Nacogdoches, Texas. Nacogdoches is about 140 miles north-northeast of Houston, 180 miles southeast of Dallas, and 90 miles southwest of Shreveport, La.
- Stephen F. Austin, also goes by SFA, and are the Lumberjacks.
- SFA is a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), the same conference as Tech's last midweek opponent, CBU.
- WAC baseball is broken into the Southwest and West Divisions. SFA was picked to finish fifth in the Southwest Division, behind first place Abilene Christian, UTRGV, Sam Houston and Lamar. Tarleton was sixth.
- In addition to SFA and CBU, Texas Tech also plays conference mates Abilene Christian and Grand Canyon in 2022.
- SFA is 5-16 in 2022, and has lost 12 of its last 13 games.Â
- Last weekend, at home, SFA took the Friday night opener 2-1 over Sam Houston, and dropped the next two.
- SFA returns home after its trip to West Texas to host Tarleton.
SERIES HISTORY
Texas Tech owns a 5-2 all-time series advantage against Stephen F. Austin. The two programs have linked up for games in 2007, 2014 and in 2021. The teams split two games during their first-ever pairing in 2007, the Red Raiders won the only game played in Nacogdoches in 2014, 5-4, on Feb. 27 before two more games that season were in Lubbock. Tech won the first one in 2014, 20-4, but fell the next day 6-3. Last year, the Red Raiders met the Lumberjacks at Rip Griffin Park on April 13-14, and were 4-3 winners and 7-5 winners.
