Texas Tech freshman now has three top-10 finishes this season, all that have come in the DFW area
LUBBOCK, Texas – Chiara Horder recorded her third top-10 finish of her young career Tuesday to lead No. 20 Texas Tech during the final round of the Bruzzy Challenge hosted at Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth.
Horder, who has now finished among the top-20 individuals in each of Texas Tech's last three stroke play events, fired an even-par 72 final round, keeping her at 3-under for the tournament after a par of low cards Monday. Horder played the par-five locations particularly well Tuesday, sinking three birdies in five opportunities, including in two of her first four holes.
All three of Horder's top-10 finishes have now come in the DFW area, ironically, as she previously wrapped the season-opening Sam Golden Invitational (Denton) in a tie for fifth this past September before closing the Trinity Forest Invitational (Dallas) in fourth place in early March.
As a team, Texas Tech dropped one spot into 12th place to wrap the tournament despite a 4-over 292 final round that was its best of the two-day event. The Red Raiders were 27-over 891 over their three rounds, finishing three back of Houston for 11th place and seven behind Charlotte and Oklahoma in a tie for ninth overall.
Besides Horder, the Red Raiders also received an even-par final round from Gala Dumez, who closed the event at 14-over for the tournament. Amy Taylor and Anna Dong, meanwhile, rounded out the lineup with a pair of 2-over 74 rounds, one stroke better than Kylee Loewe. Cecilie Nielsen also signed a 6-over round as an individual.
Baylor took advantage of its large lead to start the final round as the Bears claimed the team title at 21-under, 12 strokes better than TCU in second place. The Horned Frogs combined for a 12-under round of their own, the lowest in the 14-team field Tuesday, to surpass both Oklahoma State and Texas for runner-up honors.
The Bruzzy Challenge was the Red Raiders' final event prior to the Big 12 Championships, which will run April 22-24 at the Golf Club of Houston.
