Gala Dumez will look to defend her Big 12 individual title when play begins Friday morning
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will search for its first Big 12 title in school history this weekend when the No. 23 Red Raiders tee off at the conference tournament Friday morning from The Clubs at Houston Oaks.
The Red Raiders will look to repeat their performance from 2021 when play begins at 9 a.m. Friday morning with Texas Tech paired with both Iowa State and TCU. Texas Tech is the No. 4 seed in the nine-team field based on its latest ranking in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll.
The conference tournament was a memorable one for the Red Raiders a year ago as Texas Tech finished as the tournament runner-up, while then freshman Gala Dumez took home medalist honors following a stellar 5-under-par 67 final round. Dumez finished at 14-under 202 for the tournament, which was easily the lowest 54-hole score in championship history.
Dumez became the first Big 12 individual champion in program history as she snapped the previous 54-hole record of 207 that was set by Oklahoma State's Kenzie Neisen in 2016. She was one of two Red Raiders to finish among the top-10 individuals as Amy Taylor also wrapped the event in a tie for ninth place.
Dumez and Taylor will both be back in the lineup this week for head coach JoJo Robertson, who will also send junior Anna Dong and freshmen Chiara Horder and Chelsea Romas. Dong previously finished tied for 31st at the conference tournament a year ago.
The Red Raiders enter the tournament ranked 23rd in the latest Goflweek/Sagarin poll as Texas Tech has two team titles already this season with two runner-up showings. Their two victories have come in the past month alone as the Red Raiders closed both the Trinity Forest Invitational and the Mountain View Collegiate atop the leaderboard.
