
Tech set for NCAA West Regionals

The competition runs from Wednesday through Saturday
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA West Regionals taking place at John McDonnell Field Wednesday through Saturday.

The Rundown
Athletes who rank inside the top 48 in their respective event earn a berth into the west regionals, with the top 24 relays times also going. Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the top 12 relay teams at both the East and West regional sites sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon (June 8-11).
The decathlon and heptathlon are not contested at regionals. Instead, the top 24 decathlon and heptathlon scores in the nation earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship site.

The Tech women come into week nine of the outdoor season ranked No. 2. It matches their season-best mark (week one) and highest in program history. The men on the other hand, moved up one spot as well, climbing to No. 6.
Entries On Deck
The Tech women lead the west region and country with 36 entries, while the men have 27 entries penciled in. Not included in that list is Callie Jones, who automatically punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships as she is fifth in points (5,864) in the heptathlon. She will though, be competing in the high jump, long jump, and javelin this week.
