Long jumpers shine on day two of NCAA regionals

Day three starts Friday at 1 p.m. with the men’s discus
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Three Texas Tech long jumpers booked their tickets to the NCAA Championships next month as Monae' Nichols, Ruth Usoro and Ruta Lasmane all finished inside the top 8 Thursday night at John McDonnell Field.
Nichols led the Tech placing second overall with a mark of 6.59m (21-7.50) jumping only twice. Meanwhile, Usoro needed one jump to secure fourth as she landed in the sand pit at 6.47m (21-2.75). Lasmane rounded out the pack coming in eighth with a mark of 6.31m (20-8.50). Texas Tech is the only Division I school in the nation going to the NCAA Championships with three long jumpers.
In the 100 hurdles, a group in the west that featured three of the top 5 athletes in the nation, Demisha Roswell ran a 13.07 (-0.4), taking fourth overall for a lane in Saturday's quarterfinals.
Rosemary Chukwuma successfully booked two spots Saturday in the 100 and 200. Her time of 11.32 (-0.7) stood atop her heat as she repeated in first in the 200, recording a time of 22.94 (+1.0). Virginia Kerley ran a personal best 11.50 (+0.1) to qualify for Saturday's race. Kiah Dubarry-Gay also qualified in the 200 placing 21st overall at 23.49.

Other results included Callie Jones finishing 20th in the javelin (47.56m/156-0), while Halena Rahmaan recorded a personal best in the 1500m (4:22.88).
