Cross Country opens season at ACU Friday

Tech returns home on September 17 to host the TTU Open
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech cross country team kicks off its 2022 season traveling down the road to Abilene for the ACU Naimadu Classic Friday evening.
Friday is the beginning of one of four regular season meets on tap for Tech this fall. The women's side added five newcomers to the roster, while the men's team also welcomes five new Red Raiders.
Halena Rahmaan is one of the strong returners for Tech on the women's side as she competed in six of seven races in 2021, capping off her season at the NCAA Mountain regionals where she placed 78th. She recorded a pair of personal bests in the 5k (17:15.50) and 6k (21:02.90) last season. Adele Clarke and Hannah Spears will look to make their collegiate debut. The pair arrived to Tech having each won a state cross country title.
On the men's side, Richard Taylor looks to open his season as he paced Tech at the NCAA Mountain regional meet to finish the year. TTU added one transfer in Matthew Maki, a senior from Emporia State who finished eighth at the NCAA Division II Central region championships. Trey Leathers, a state finalist from Grapevine, Texas, is slated to make his collegiate debut.
The ACU Cross Country course is located off EN 10th street just west of Loop 322. Parking is located inside the gate, immediately to the east in the open field. Attendance is free to all spectators.
