Tech opens 2022-23 season at Carmel Cup

The eight-team event runs Friday-Sunday
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Texas Tech women's golf program begins its 2022-23 season this Friday-Sunday (Sept. 1-3) when they travel to historic Pebble Beach Golf Links for the 2022 Carmel Cup.
Hosted by Mississippi State head coach and former Texas Tech men's golf volunteer Charlie Ewing, the eight-team field includes defending national champion Stanford, conference rivals Oklahoma and Oklahoma State as well as former Big 12 foe Texas A&M.
One of the strongest fields in college golf this weekend, seven of the eight teams finished the 2022 season ranked inside the top-35 (Golf State Team Rankings) and five of the teams were ranked inside the top-25.
THE COURSE:
Historic Pebble Beach Golf Links: Par 72, 6156 Yards
THE FORMAT:
54-holes of stroke play, with each team playing six players (top-five scores will be countable)

STORYLINES:
• Tech women's golf opens its 2022-23 season at the prestigious Carmel Cup. The field includes a pair of top-10 teams and five inside the top-25 of the final GolfStat Rankings.
• Head coach JoJo Robertson will start a pair of true freshman this weekend, in Shannon Tan and Lauren Zaretsky.
• A native of Singapore, Tan joined the Red Raiders after a very successful junior/amateur career that featured her recording eight wins, 11 top-10 finishes and a career-best ranking of No. 51 in the world.
• Tan won five times in 2021 and competed at the KLPGA Hanna Financial Group Championship and the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur.
• Tech will have to replace seniors Valetina Gilly and Amy Taylor. Taylor is currently playing professionally on the LET Access Series Tour.
