Lady Raiders welcome Incarnate Word

LUBBOCK, Texas – After an eight-day break, the undefeated Texas Tech Lady Raiders will host the Incarnate Word Cardinals for Education Day on Wednesday, December 13 at 11:30 a.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena.
Texas Tech (10-0) is one of the few teams left in the nation who has not lost a game this season and are receiving votes in the current AP Top 25 poll. Last week, the Lady Raiders put together a dominating victory against Sam Houston, winning the game by a 93-60 score. In the game, Bailey Maupin almost collected a triple-double when she totaled 15 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds. Maupin's 11 assists and eight boards with a career-best, while that marked her first career double-double. Jasmine Shavers picked up her seventh double-figure scoring game and third game scoring over 20 points after tallying 22 on the night.
Against the Bearkats, Kilah Freelon did something that no other Lady Raider has done before. She set the program record for the most makes without a miss after she connected with all eight of her field goal attempts last Tuesday. Her 8-of-8 (1.000) shooting was the best since Rhyle McKinney shot 7-of-7 from the field against Alabama State last year on December 1, 2022.
In addition, the Texas Tech sophomore class is off to a hot start this season. Three sophomores lead the team in scoring, all in double-figures, with Maupin leading the way as she totals 15.8 ppg, followed by Shavers with 15.2 ppg and Freelon with 10.0 ppg. The sophomore class also accounts for 38 of Tech's 64 3-pointers (.594) as well as 194 of Tech's 384 rebounds (.505).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Incarnate Word is 5-2 on the season with key victories over UTRGV (67-57), Prairie View A&M (57-44) and Tarleton (57-42) and is also boasting a four-game win streak. Their two losses come against New Mexico State (52-59) and TCU (55-61). UIW has two players averaging double-figures as Aliyah Collins totals 10.9 ppg and Nina De Leon Negron is right behind with 10.5 ppg. Destiny Terrell leads the Cardinals in rebounding as she tallies 6.7 boards per game, followed by Mallory McQuietor with 5.0. Collins also has a team-best 21 assists through seven games.
