LUBBOCK, Texas – A surging Texas Tech basketball team returns home from sweeping a two-game road trip to host No. 24 TCU at 11 a.m. on Saturday at a sold-out United Supermarkets Arena.
The Red Raiders (16-12, 5-10 Big 12) are on a four-game winning streak that continued with a 74-63 win at Oklahoma on Tuesday, while the Horned Frogs (18-10, 7-8 Big 12) are coming off a 63-58 loss at No. 3 Kansas on Monday in Fort Worth. Tech has won 6 of its last eight games, including three straight home wins over ranked opponents. Left for dead after an eight-game losing streak, Texas Tech is currently at No. 49 in the NCAA Net Rankings with a 5-10 record in Quad 1 games with three regular season contests remaining. TCU is at No. 22 with a 5-9 record in Quad 1 games.
"TCU has all the pieces for a great team," Texas Tech coach Mark Adams said. "They've struggled as of late is because their best player (Mike Miles) has been hurt. Now that he's back, they're a team that could make a long run into the NCAA Tournament. They have a lot of experience and a very good coach. They do everything well, especially pushing the ball extremely well. They are a team atop the Big 12 in attacking the basket and initiating. They hurt us last time in their fastbreak and how fast they can get from one end of the floor to the other. They have size, athleticism, and are a very good defensive team. We'll have to play one of our best games to compete with them."
Tech has won seven in a row over TCU at home in the series but will try to avenge a 67-61 loss on New Year's Eve in Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs trailed 37-26 in that game to begin conference play before rallying to snap a six-game Tech winning streak. At that point in the season, Tech was 10-3 overall and TCU was ranked No. 18 and improved to 12-1.
Fardaws Aimaq led Tech with 19 points and 10 rebounds at Oklahoma on Tuesday night, while Jaylon Tyson had 18 points and eight rebounds, Kevin Obanor provided 11 points and seven rebounds and Pop Isaacs hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points. Tech owned the inside against OU, finishing with a 38-22 rebounding advantage and outscoring the Sooners by a 40-24 margin in the paint. The Red Raiders have now outscored 20 of their 28 opponents in the paint this season. Aimaq's double-double was his second straight after he had 14 points and 12 rebounds in the road win at West Virginia last Saturday – taking his career total to 43 double-doubles. He has missed 21 games this season due to injury but is producing 11.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in the seven games he's played in.
Obanor leads Tech with 14.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game for the entire season, while De'Vion Harmon is averaging 13.5 points and a team-best 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals. A fifth-year senior, Obanor ranks sixth in the Big 12 in rebounding and is 10th in scoring. Harmon was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday after going for a career-high 25 points last week against Texas and extending a streak of nine straight double-figure scoring performances with 13 points at West Virginia. He was held to eight points at Oklahoma but led Tech with four assists and two steals in the victory. Over the past five games, Harmon is averaging 17.0 points and Tyson is at 16.2 points in those games. Tyson scored a career-high 27 points at West Virginia and is now averaging 11.1 points and 6.0 rebounds for the season. Isaacs leads Tech with 53 3-pointers, including going 6-for-11 in the past two games after he had missed the previous six games with an ankle injury. He currently ranked fifth in the Big 12 with 2.5 3-pointers per game.
TCU travels to Lubbock having lost 6 of its last eight games with a 100-75 win over Oklahoma State last Saturday stopping a four-game losing streak. The Horned Frogs are currently third defensively in the Big 12 by limiting opponents to 67.1 points per game and rank fifth in scoring with 75.8 points per on offense. Tech is seventh in both categories, scoring 74.0 for the season and opponents averaging 68.2 per game. Mike Miles leads TCU with 17.7 points per game, while Damion Baugh is at 12.9 and Emmanuel Miller has contributed 6.2 rebounds and 12.7 points for the season. Micah Peavy, who started his career at Tech as a freshman during the 2020-21 season, is in his second season at TCU. He is currently averaging 7.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Miles was named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year and is coming off a game against KU where he led TCU with 13 points despite shooting just 4-for-14 from the field. JaKobe Coles led the Horned Frog reserves with 12 points and is now averaging 8.5 points for the season. Miles is currently the Big 12's third leading scorer and Miller ranks seventh within the conference in rebounding.
Tech is currently 11-4 at home. TCU is 2-6 on the road.
TECH VS. TCU – ROUND 1
Texas Tech owned a 37-26 halftime lead over TCU but would fall 67-61 on December 31 in the first matchup between the two teams. Isaacs led the Red Raiders with 17 points after hitting five 3-pointers, while Harmon provided 13 points, five steals, seven rebounds and two assists. Daniel Batcho led Tech with five blocks and nine rebounds in a game where Obanor was limited to six points and four rebounds. Aimaq did not play in the game due to his injury. Mike Miles led TCU with 23 points with eight of those points coming at the free-throw line and Emanuel Miller scored 16 and had six rebounds. The Horned Frogs won the game by forcing 23 turnovers by the Red Raiders to overcome their 2-for-14 shooting from beyond the arc.
SERIES HISTORY
Tech has won 7 of the last 10 in the series over TCU and are 49-15 in Lubbock in the series. The teams split last season and the Red Raiders will look to avoid their first sweep in the series since 2015… Tech earned an 82-69 win in Lubbock last season but are trying to even the series this year after taking the 67-61 loss in Fort Worth on December 31… The all-time series began on January 23, 1932 with TCU taking a 30-19 win in Fort Worth… The teams met in Lubbock for the first time on December 10, 1937 with TCU taking that game by a 34-24 margin… Tech earned its first win in the series with a two-day sweep in 1940.

The final week of the regular season tests Tech with a road game at No. 3 Kansas at 8 p.m. on Tuesday in Lawrence, Kansas before the regular-season finale against Oklahoma State at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 4. The Red Raiders dropped the first game in both series. Tech will honor Kevin Obanor and manager Wyatt Young prior to the game against Oklahoma State in a senior day ceremony.

• Tech is making 46.6 percent of its shots this season; opponents are being limited to 41.7 percent… The Red Raiders limited Louisville to only 22.4 percent shooting and also held Northwestern State to only 28.4 in their best defensive efforts of the season… In 12 Big 12 games, Tech is shooting just 43.0 percent and opponents are at 43.6 percent… Oklahoma shot just 35.6 percent on Tuesday – the best defensive result for Tech in conference play
• In non-conference play, Tech made 14 3-pointers against South Carolina which was the most since they hit a program-best 16 against Kansas in 2019… Tech made 13 3s against Jackson State for a previous season-high… Tech had its worst 3-point shooting performance of the season against Oklahoma by going just 2-for-18 from beyond the arc in the overtime loss
• In non-conference play, Tech forced a season-high 30 turnovers from Jackson State and scored 47 points off those turnovers… Tech had 19 steals in the game led by Obanor who had four while Isaacs, Washington and Williams had three steals each… The program record for steals in a game is 24 against Nicholls in 2002… The 19 matched the second-most ever for a Red Raider team
• In non-conference play, the 50-point win over Jackson State was the 14th time in program history a Tech team has won by 50 or more
• Tech has won six games by 20 or more points this season, including the 50-point win over JSU, topping HSU by 44, winning by 39 over SC State and a 34-point win over Louisville in Maui… The Red Raiders have held five opponents under 60 points, two under 50 and one under 40 with Louisville scoring only 38 points
• Last season, Tech was 12-6 in Big 12 play, including going 9-0 in home games… The Red Raiders advanced to the Big 12 Championship Finals where they lost to Kansas

• Jaylon Tyson established a new career-high with 27 points at West Virginia where he was 11-for-15 from the field and 3-of-4 on 3-pointers and followed it with 18 points and eight rebounds at Oklahoma… He is now averaging 12.2 points and 7.0 rebounds in Big 12 games this season… A sophomore from Plano, he had a previous career-high of 20 points at Oklahoma State two weeks ago in a game where he scored 12 of those points in the second half, including a 3-pointer with a minute to play to cut OSU's lead to one… Over the past five games, he's averaging 16.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game and is 9-for-15 on 3-pointers (60 percent)… Tyson recorded the third double-double of his career with 19 points and 10 rebounds at Baylor and is tied with Batcho for the team lead this season in double-doubles…Tyson was 8-for-14 from the field and hit three 3-pointers against the Bears to match his previous career-high in scoring which came in the home game against Baylor… He was coming off a game against Iowa State with 11 points, nine rebounds and a career-high four assists… It was the third game this season where he missed a double-double by one rebound… Tyson had his first two double-doubles this season by going for a career-high 19 points and 12 rebounds against Baylor at home following 12 points and 14 rebounds at Texas… His 14 rebounds against the Longhorns in Austin were a career-best and the first time he had double-digit rebounds after having nine rebounds in games this season against Georgetown and Kansas… Tyson, who transferred from Texas last season, led Tech with nine rebounds against Kansas and added 10 points, three steals and three assists in the game… He was just one rebound shy of his first career double-double in games against Georgetown and Kansas before getting it against the Longhorns… Tyson has scored in double figures in 15 games this season and has had five or more rebounds in 19 of 27 games played… A starter in 27 games, Tyson transferred to Tech at midterm last season but did not play in a game for the Red Raiders… Tyson is currently 38-for-93 (40.9 percent) on 3-pointers and has made at least one 3-pointer in 21 of 27 games played… The home game against Texas and the one at LSU are the only ones where he did not take a 3-point attempt… Against Northwestern State, in his first game at Tech, Tyson made his first collegiate start and was 3-for-4 from the field, including going 2-for-3 on 3-pointers to finish with eight points… His 3-pointer on Tech's second possession of the season-opener was the first basket this season for the Red Raiders… He began his career at the University of Texas where he played in eight games with freshman season-high 11 points coming against Houston Christian last season.

• Lamar Washington recorded a career-high 13 points and five steals in the win over K-State in 18:52 of playing time as a reserve… He had started the previous two games at Oklahoma State and Baylor, finishing with a team-high five assists at Baylor to go along with seven points and three rebounds… Against K-State, Washington was 4-for-7 from the field and 2-for-4 on 3-pointers… He is now 5-for-25 on 3-pointers for the season… His five assists at BU matched a career-high that he also had against Nicholls – he now has 52 assists this season… Washington led the Tech bench with eight points against Iowa State after going 3-for-5 from the field and making two free throws… A steal and dunk with six minutes remaining cut the Cyclone lead to six in the 23-point comeback win… Washington made his first career start against Oklahoma in a game where he contributed six points and six rebounds in 36 minutes of play… Washington had established a previous career-high with 12 points and five assists in the non-conference win over Nicholls after going 12-for-17 from the free-throw line… A key reserve throughout his freshman season, he is currently averaging 3.4 points, 1.9 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.9 rebounds per game… Washington was averaging 7.8 points and 3.0 assists in the five games leading into conference play… He had a previous season-best with three steals against Houston Christian and Jackson State in non-conference play… A freshman from Portland, Oregon, his 12 points against Nicholls was the first time he scored in double figures and came with him going 0-for-1 from the field shooting… Washington was the 2021 Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year while playing at Jefferson High School as a junior before playing at Compass Prep in Arizona last season as a senior... He produced 2,135 points, 705 rebounds and 823 assists during his high school career.
• Elijah Fisher made the first start of his career against K-State, finishing with three rebounds, two points and a steal in 12:48 of playing time… He returned to a reserve role in the past three games and is coming off four points and four rebounds in the win at Oklahoma… A freshman from Toronto, he had a career-high nine rebounds at LSU with three coming on the offensive end before contributing three rebounds and three points against Iowa State… At LSU, he would add five points and two steals in 22 minutes of play in the win in Baton Rouge… For the season, he scored a best of eight points after going 3-for-4 from the field against Jackson State before scoring five points in each of the wins over SC State and HCU… He is now averaging 3.1 points per game with a previous season-best seven points coming against Texas Southern in the second game of the season… Through 24 games played, he is 28-for-63 (44.4 percent) from the field this season… Before his nine rebounds at LSU, his previous career-high in rebounding was three in games against Jackson State, South Carolina State and Oklahoma… A Toronto, Ontario, Canada native, Fisher averaged 28 points and 13 rebounds during his junior season… Fisher was a consensus five-star recruit and ranked No. 15 by ESPN for the 2023 class… He reclassified to play this season and enrolled at Tech a year early.
• KJ Allen scored nine points and had five rebounds against TCU in 20 minutes of play for his top Big 12 performance… He was 4-for-5 from the field and also came away with one steal against the Horned Frogs… Allen went off for a career-high 15 points in the win over Jackson State by shooting 7-for-10 from the field before scoring six against Houston Christian… A junior from Los Angeles, Allen had a season-high seven rebounds and scored five points in the win over EWU in 18 minutes off the bench… In his second season at Tech, Allen is currently averaging 2.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game this season after contributing three points and three rebounds in the win over K-State… He had a previous season-high five rebounds against Creighton in the first game in Maui… Allen played in 19 games as a reserve last season for the Red Raiders with a season-high six points coming in games against Kansas State and Omaha… Allen was featured on the Netflix documentary Last Chance U while playing at East Los Angeles College where he averaged 18.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game and was Adams' first signee.
• Robert Jennings matched a career-high with six rebounds in the road win at WVU with three coming on the offensive end… He also had three points in eight minutes of playing time… A freshman forward, he provided four points and a rebound in the win over No. 6 Texas after he had four rebounds, three points and a career-high two blocks in the win over K-State in 13 minutes as a reserve… Against the Longhorns, Jennings made a 3-pointer and is now 3-for-8 from beyond the arc this season… He also had six points and a rebound in the win over Iowa State in 12:46 on the court… A freshman from DeSoto, Texas, he made his fourth start of his career against OU in a game where he contributed eight points (matched career-high) and three rebounds in a career-best 23 minutes of play before contributing three rebounds… Jennings produced a career-high six rebounds as a reserve in the final non-conference game against South Carolina State…He was coming off matching his career-highs with eight points and five rebounds against Houston Christian… A freshman from Desoto, he established his career-high with eight points against Louisville in Maui after he went 3-for-5 from the field and also hit two free throws in 15 minutes of work… He's currently averaging 3.0 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

LEGACY
Texas Tech spent the first and second day of October in Stanton, Texas at its annual team retreat working to continue building strong bonds for the season. The Red Raiders were at the Circle 6 Camp for two days with a theme of legacy that was designed to connect the past with the current team. Adams, shown holding up boxing gloves, talked with the current team about past players who helped build the program and also about how each of the current players owes it to themselves and the program to work hard every day to continue building the legacy that many have worked to build. The team opened up to each other through discussion and also had fun with multiple team-building activities.

The Red Raiders (16-12, 5-10 Big 12) are on a four-game winning streak that continued with a 74-63 win at Oklahoma on Tuesday, while the Horned Frogs (18-10, 7-8 Big 12) are coming off a 63-58 loss at No. 3 Kansas on Monday in Fort Worth. Tech has won 6 of its last eight games, including three straight home wins over ranked opponents. Left for dead after an eight-game losing streak, Texas Tech is currently at No. 49 in the NCAA Net Rankings with a 5-10 record in Quad 1 games with three regular season contests remaining. TCU is at No. 22 with a 5-9 record in Quad 1 games.
"TCU has all the pieces for a great team," Texas Tech coach Mark Adams said. "They've struggled as of late is because their best player (Mike Miles) has been hurt. Now that he's back, they're a team that could make a long run into the NCAA Tournament. They have a lot of experience and a very good coach. They do everything well, especially pushing the ball extremely well. They are a team atop the Big 12 in attacking the basket and initiating. They hurt us last time in their fastbreak and how fast they can get from one end of the floor to the other. They have size, athleticism, and are a very good defensive team. We'll have to play one of our best games to compete with them."
Tech has won seven in a row over TCU at home in the series but will try to avenge a 67-61 loss on New Year's Eve in Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs trailed 37-26 in that game to begin conference play before rallying to snap a six-game Tech winning streak. At that point in the season, Tech was 10-3 overall and TCU was ranked No. 18 and improved to 12-1.
Fardaws Aimaq led Tech with 19 points and 10 rebounds at Oklahoma on Tuesday night, while Jaylon Tyson had 18 points and eight rebounds, Kevin Obanor provided 11 points and seven rebounds and Pop Isaacs hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points. Tech owned the inside against OU, finishing with a 38-22 rebounding advantage and outscoring the Sooners by a 40-24 margin in the paint. The Red Raiders have now outscored 20 of their 28 opponents in the paint this season. Aimaq's double-double was his second straight after he had 14 points and 12 rebounds in the road win at West Virginia last Saturday – taking his career total to 43 double-doubles. He has missed 21 games this season due to injury but is producing 11.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in the seven games he's played in.
Obanor leads Tech with 14.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game for the entire season, while De'Vion Harmon is averaging 13.5 points and a team-best 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals. A fifth-year senior, Obanor ranks sixth in the Big 12 in rebounding and is 10th in scoring. Harmon was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday after going for a career-high 25 points last week against Texas and extending a streak of nine straight double-figure scoring performances with 13 points at West Virginia. He was held to eight points at Oklahoma but led Tech with four assists and two steals in the victory. Over the past five games, Harmon is averaging 17.0 points and Tyson is at 16.2 points in those games. Tyson scored a career-high 27 points at West Virginia and is now averaging 11.1 points and 6.0 rebounds for the season. Isaacs leads Tech with 53 3-pointers, including going 6-for-11 in the past two games after he had missed the previous six games with an ankle injury. He currently ranked fifth in the Big 12 with 2.5 3-pointers per game.
TCU travels to Lubbock having lost 6 of its last eight games with a 100-75 win over Oklahoma State last Saturday stopping a four-game losing streak. The Horned Frogs are currently third defensively in the Big 12 by limiting opponents to 67.1 points per game and rank fifth in scoring with 75.8 points per on offense. Tech is seventh in both categories, scoring 74.0 for the season and opponents averaging 68.2 per game. Mike Miles leads TCU with 17.7 points per game, while Damion Baugh is at 12.9 and Emmanuel Miller has contributed 6.2 rebounds and 12.7 points for the season. Micah Peavy, who started his career at Tech as a freshman during the 2020-21 season, is in his second season at TCU. He is currently averaging 7.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Miles was named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year and is coming off a game against KU where he led TCU with 13 points despite shooting just 4-for-14 from the field. JaKobe Coles led the Horned Frog reserves with 12 points and is now averaging 8.5 points for the season. Miles is currently the Big 12's third leading scorer and Miller ranks seventh within the conference in rebounding.
Tech is currently 11-4 at home. TCU is 2-6 on the road.
TECH VS. TCU – ROUND 1
Texas Tech owned a 37-26 halftime lead over TCU but would fall 67-61 on December 31 in the first matchup between the two teams. Isaacs led the Red Raiders with 17 points after hitting five 3-pointers, while Harmon provided 13 points, five steals, seven rebounds and two assists. Daniel Batcho led Tech with five blocks and nine rebounds in a game where Obanor was limited to six points and four rebounds. Aimaq did not play in the game due to his injury. Mike Miles led TCU with 23 points with eight of those points coming at the free-throw line and Emanuel Miller scored 16 and had six rebounds. The Horned Frogs won the game by forcing 23 turnovers by the Red Raiders to overcome their 2-for-14 shooting from beyond the arc.
SERIES HISTORY
Tech has won 7 of the last 10 in the series over TCU and are 49-15 in Lubbock in the series. The teams split last season and the Red Raiders will look to avoid their first sweep in the series since 2015… Tech earned an 82-69 win in Lubbock last season but are trying to even the series this year after taking the 67-61 loss in Fort Worth on December 31… The all-time series began on January 23, 1932 with TCU taking a 30-19 win in Fort Worth… The teams met in Lubbock for the first time on December 10, 1937 with TCU taking that game by a 34-24 margin… Tech earned its first win in the series with a two-day sweep in 1940.

• Fardaws Aimaq now has 43 career double-doubles after a season-high 19 points and 10 rebounds at Oklahoma after going for 14 points and 12 rebounds in the win at West Virginia… He was 10-for-10 at the free-throw line at WVU and had five offensive rebounds in the road victory… Aimaq was coming off 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the win over No. 6 Texas last Monday in his fifth game played this season… He had made his return to the lineup against K-State where he played 23 minutes, finishing with two points, two assists and one rebound… Aimaq had missed the previous five games after playing in three… Aimaq is averaging 11.0 points and 7.3 rebounds through seven games played this season… He now has 1,133 points, 969 rebounds and 101 blocked shots in his career… Aimaq made his Texas Tech debut at Texas on January 14 where he went for 12 points and five rebounds in 28:58 of time on the court before going for 12 points and nine rebounds in his home debut against Baylor on January 17… A 6-foot-11 senior, he came into this season as an All-Big 12 Preseason Honorable Mention selection and was also on the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Watch List for the top center in college basketball. … Listed as a forward from Vancouver, Aimaq had been sidelined for the first 16 games of the year with a foot injury he suffered before in September… He would go 5-for-12 from the field and was 1-of-3 from beyond the arc in Austin and was 5-for-8 with one 3-pointer against Baylor… His 42 double-doubles are the seventh most nationally among active players… He earned the 2020-21 WAC Player of the Year honors as a sophomore after leading the nation with 15.0 rebounds to go along with 13.9 points per game and was coming off a junior season where he went for 18.9 points and 13.6 rebounds per game… He was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Year the previous two seasons… During his career, he's averaged 12.6 points and 10.8 rebounds through 90 games.

LEGACY
Texas Tech spent the first and second day of October in Stanton, Texas at its annual team retreat working to continue building strong bonds for the season. The Red Raiders were at the Circle 6 Camp for two days with a theme of legacy that was designed to connect the past with the current team. Adams, shown holding up boxing gloves, talked with the current team about past players who helped build the program and also about how each of the current players owes it to themselves and the program to work hard every day to continue building the legacy that many have worked to build. The team opened up to each other through discussion and also had fun with multiple team-building activities.
