
Tech wraps up day one at ACU

Dating back to the NCAA outdoor meet, Malin Smith has now registered back-to-back personal best marks.
ABILENE, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team wrapped up day one of the ninth-annual Wes Kittley Invitational hosted by ACU at Elmer Gray Stadium Friday afternoon.
The Tech discus and distance squads opened the outdoor 2023 outdoor season for the Red Raiders. Malin Smith was the first one in action Friday as she placed first in the discus with a PB mark of 57.17m (187-7). In her last outdoor meet, the NCAA Championships, Smith took third, in which at that time she recorded a PB mark of 56.78m (186-3).
Over on the men's side, Devin Roberson led the way. The TCU transfer threw 56.93m (186-9) on his third toss to take first overall. Meanwhile in the evening distance portion, Timothy Gregg placed first with a time of 3:55.10. Hannah Spears paced the women's side coming in fourth (4:47.52).
In the women's 5000, Taylor Limbaugh led from the very start and registered a new all-time best mark in the event of 18:02.37. Samuel Ashley paced the men going 14:42.14 for an all-time best.

- Konner Wood placed 8th at 51.29m (168-3) (PB).
- Adele Clarke (4:48.72), Melanie Jacobs (4:53.83, PB) and Emeline Mangham (5:08.30) finished 5th, 9th and 17th.
- Paul Sherrill (3:58.24) and Kirk Zuber (3:58.64) placed 3rd and 4th.
- Sarah Zdansky equaled her 5000 PB of 19:06.45. She ran that exact time last season at the same meet.
- Matthew Maki placed third in the 5000 at 14:55.79
