
Tech set for NCAA West First Round prelims

Sacramento is the final tune-up before the national meet in Austin
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's and women's track field teams compete in Sacramento, Calif., Wednesday through Saturday in the NCAA West First Round prelims at Hornet Stadium hosted by Sacramento State.

The men and women will compete on separate days. Men will compete Wednesday and Friday while the women compete Thursday and Saturday.
Rundown
A majority of the running events feature a first round followed by a quarterfinals day. Athletes who make the cut to the quarterfinals day, will need to finish in the top-12 in order to secure their spot in the 2023 Outdoor Championship meet in Austin, Texas (June 7-11).
Meanwhile, in throwing/field events, athletes are only allowed three attempts to secure a top-12 spot.
Rankings
The Texas Tech men head into the meet ranked No. 2 for a third consecutive week, while the women moved up two spots to No. 15.
Top of the West
The TTU men are represented in 13 different events this week and in nine of those at least one Red Raider sits inside the top-10. In the 100m alone, four Red Raiders are boasted in the top-10, led by Terrence Jones' mark of 9.91.
