Ambroziak wins her first tournament of career with six Red Raiders in the top-15
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Powered by a dominant effort up and down the lineup, Texas Tech women's golf program rolled their way to a 27-shot win at the Red Raider Invitational Tuesday.
Leading the way for the Red Raiders was freshman Maja Ambroziak. Fueled by a final round of one under par, Ambroziak won her first tournament of her collegiate career after finishing -7 with a pair of 71's and a 67 in round two.
Ambroziak took the lead early in round two and never looked back. The freshman fired five birdies in her final round, taking her total up to 15 birdies for the tournament.Â
After a slow start on the front nine in the final round, senior Gala Dumez heated up after she made the turn and recorded three birdies in her final four holes.
Starting the final round with an even score, Dumez would go on to finish four under par and tied for third, jumping up eight spots in the back nine of the final round.
Sophomore Lauren Zaretsky moved up one spot from Monday's finish after finishing the final round with an overall score of -3. Zaretsky opened the final round on fire with three birdies to finish sixth.
Junior Libby Fleming started her final round in second place before firing a final round 74 to close in the seventh spot.Â
The star of the show in the final round was junior Chelsea Romas who was playing as an individual. Romas fired six birdies and an eagle, recording a final round 64 to break the Rawls Course Women's record. The junior was the only Red Raider to record a bogey-free round, pushing her to finish tied for eighth at one under par.
Freshman Klara Hurtova started to heat up after birdie on her seventh hole and an eagle on her tenth. Hurtova was one of two Red Raiders to record an eagle throughout the tournament. She would go on to finish in 11th at one over par.
After the final round, Tech had six girls in the top-15, with all eight Red Raiders who played finishing inside the top-45.
