Corky Classic
Named after Tech legend Corky Oglesby, the "Corky Classic" recognizes Oglesby's nearly 50 years of service to the university, including 20 (1975-1995) spent as the head men's track and field coach. His list of successful athletes included 32 All-Americans, 11 Southwest Conference outdoor champions and seven SWC indoor individual champions.
After stepping down as the head track coach in 1995, Oglesby remained active in the sport as he attended top events throughout the world each year as either a spectator or as a meet official. He later transitioned to a special projects coordinator in the Red Raider Club, a position he remained active in up until his passing in November of 2017. The inaugural Corky Classic would start the following season.
Last Time Out
TTU opened the 2024 season last Saturday hosting the Stan Scott Memorial winning 11 individual events and a pair of 4x400 relays. On the sprints side, Alyssa Colbert claimed the 60m finals with a time of 7.19 as she was named the Big 12 Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week Wednesday afternoon. Her time is tied for second in the country and tied for third in the world rankings.
Â
Friday a pair of top-15 freshmen high jumpers in the country in Claire Lowrey and Temitope Adeshina will look to reach higher heights as they both cleared 1.83m (6-0) last week. Omamuyovwi Erhire will look to make his high jump debut after competing in the triple jump last week.
