Lady Raiders head to Virginia for ITA Kickoff Weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raider tennis team will be traveling to Charlottesville, Va., for ITA Kickoff Weekend this Friday and Saturday, January 26-27.
The Lady Raiders will first be playing against No. 11 Virginia (4-0) on Friday, January 26 at 11 a.m. CT, and then face off against either No. 24 Wisconsin (2-0) or Georgia Tech (0-1) on Saturday, January 27 at either 2:30 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. CT.
Texas Tech is coming off a dominant 6-1 win over the Liberty Flames where No. 69 Cristina Tiglea, Mariya Polishchuk, Metka Komac and Andreea Lila each won their singles matches in straight sets while Avelina Sayfetdinova won in a three-set thriller. The doubles team of Tiglea and Polishchuk along with Lila and freshman Jermine Sherif both won their doubles matches as well to give Tech the doubles point.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The No. 11 Virginia Cavaliers are coming off a perfect four match homestand where they did not drop a single set. No. 82 Melodie Collard leads the team in dual singles wins with a 4-0 record on the year. No. 46 Hibah Shaikh, No. 86 Annabelle Xu and No. 88 Sara Ziodato are all tied for second with each sporting a 3-0 record in dual singles. Their No. 48 doubles pairing of Shaikh and Natasha Subhash lead the team with a 3-0 dual doubles record. This will be the first match between the University of Virginia and Texas Tech in women's tennis.
The No. 24 University of Wisconsin Badgers go into the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 2-0 record where they won their matches against James Madison and Northern Illinois by a combined 13-1 score. Three Badgers had a 2-0 record on the weekend including No. 67 Maria Sholokhova, while No. 87 Xinyu Cai won her only match. The Badgers doubles teams are a combined 4-0 with four different pairings. Texas Tech is 2-0 all-time against Wisconsin with the last match happening on February 12, 2016 when Tech won by a score of 4-1.
Georgia Tech is heading to Charlottesville after being shutout by the University of Central Florida, 0-4. The Yellow Jackets are led in singles by No. 107 Carol Lee and No. 123 Kylie Bilchev, both of whom had their matches unfinished against UCF. Texas Tech is 1-1 all-time against Georgia Tech with the last matchup in 2019 going in favor of Tech, 4-1.
