Red Raiders sign off in seventh at Illini Invitational

MEDINAH, Ill. -- The Texas Tech women's golf team fired a season-low 7-under 281 in its final round on Tuesday, closing the Illini Women's Invitational on a high note at Medinah Country Club. Junior Lauren Zaretsky and sophomore Klara Hurtova led the way in the effort, each carding a 2-under-par 70 in the final round.
The Red Raiders finished seventh out of the 15 teams in the field, improving from their tie for ninth place at the end of Monday's 36-hole day.Â
Zaretsky tied for 23rd with a 3-under-par 213 for the tournament, leading the Red Raiders as their top finisher. With six birdies in the final round, three of them being within a four-hole stretch midway through it, Zaretsky was able to secure her spot in the top 30. Maja Ambroziak and Danique Stokmans joined Zaretsky as Red Raiders to finish the tournament under par. checking in with the second and third-best scores.
Ambroziak drained three birdies in the final round, en route to carding a 1-under-par 71. Stokmans sank five birdies in the final round, including an eagle on the 492-yard, par-5 11th-hole, to get her to 2-under-par 70. Both finished tied for 34th.Â
Hurtova pushed her way to finish strong in the final round, jumping up 17 spots on the leaderboard after carding a 2-under-par 70, her best of the tournament. She finished tied for 52nd after starting the day tied for 69th.
Texas Tech finished the tournament 6-under-par (858), just two strokes shy of its season-best tournament score, set last time out at the Red Raider Invitational.
The Red Raiders will return for action, Oct. 20-21, at the Jim West Challenge hosted by Texas State.
