Lady Raiders host Washington State on Saturday

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders host their fourth-consecutive home game as they welcome the Washington State Cougars for a contest on Saturday, November 16 at 6 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena. Texas Tech leads the all-time series against Washington State with a 3-0 record. The two teams last played on November 16, 2008 with the Lady Raiders coming out on top by an 82-69 score.
Texas Tech (3-0) is coming off a 75-68 win against the New Mexico Lobos on Tuesday. In that game, four Lady Raiders posted double-figure scoring – Jasmine Shavers (18), Sarengbe Sanogo (10), Bailey Maupin (10) and Loghan Johnson (10). All of Shavers' points came in the second half, with 13 being scored in the final quarter.
In the same game, graduate senior Jordyn Merritt was dishing out assists left and right. Recording a new career-high in the category, the Plano, Texas native tallied seven assists on the night to lead the Lady Raiders. In addition, she has the team-lead with nine assists and 3.0 assists per game so far.
The Lady Raiders currently average 6.0 blocks per game, which ranks 27th nationally and second in the Big 12 behind TCU's 9.3 per game. Sanogo averages 2.67 blocks per game, leading the team in that category, while ranking 26th nationally and fourth in conference. She also ranks 19th in the nation and second in the Big 12 with eight total blocks, getting four of those against the Lobos.
Missing the first two games this season, graduate senior Maya Peat made her Lady Raider debut against the Lobos on TuesÂday evening. Only playing eight minutes, Peat was still able to secure her first points as a Lady Raider with a layup in the third quarter.
Texas Tech is also averaging 15.3 offensive rebounds per game, ranking 62nd nationally and third in the conference in that category. In Tech's last win, the Lady Raiders outrebounded the Lobos 41 to 32 and grabbed 16 offensive rebounds on the night.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Washington State is coming into the matchup with a 2-1 overall record, earning an overtime win against Eastern Washington, 83-82, a 71-60 win over Idaho and falling to (RV) Stanford, 94-65. The Cougars, who were ranked No. 24 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll, return three starters to their team. Two players lead the team with double-digit scoring as Eleonora Villa totals 16.7 points per game and Tara Wallack tallies 16.0 points per game. The Cougs are led in rebounding by Wallack with 6.0 per game, followed by Astera Tuhina with 4.7. As a team, they total 23 blocks, 20 steals and 32 assists.
