The Red Raiders hit .313 to defeat the Knights in three
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball (12-11, 4-7) recorded its first Big 12 sweep of the season on Saturday afternoon against UCF (8-11, 1-9) in the United Supermarkets Arena. Mia Wesley and Brynn Williams combined for 27 kills as Hanna Borer did a bit of everything to propel Tech to its fourth conference win.
Wesley led the Red Raiders with 14 kills while hitting .312 and picking up 12 digs to mark her eighth double-double of the season.
Williams was right behind Wesley, finishing with 13 kills while hitting .344 and recording two solo blocks. Emily Merrick tacked on seven kills and was in on four blocks while middle blockers Aliyah McDonald and Reagan Engler combined for nine kills and eight blocks.
Borer finished with 32 assists, six kills, seven digs and two blocks. She was the everywhere and had a massive play late in the first set to save a ball headed for the stands that would eventually lead to a Red Raider point and set win.
Maddie Correa finished with a game-high 16 kills and was a perfect 14-for-14 on serve receive out of the Libero position.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first two sets were close the whole way, but Tech never trailed in set one. The Red Raiders hit .293 percent thanks to Mia Wesley and Brynn Williams who combined for 10 kills to open up the match.
Set two was more of the same, just with a little more drama as UCF tied the match eight times and took the lead two different times. At 20-20 Tech was able to score five of the final eight points to go up 2-0 and have firm control over the match. Despite losing the set, the Knights hit .500 but Tech was able to hit .375 percent and pick up 21 kills.
Tech closed out set three with little trouble hitting .265 while holding the Knights to hitting just -.027 and was able to side out 76 percent of the time.
Red Raiders have now won three of their last four games and are playing some of the best volleyball of the year at the perfect time as they look to make a run down the stretch.
UP NEXT: Tech will host Baylor at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
