LUBBOCK, Texas – Sophomore Kilah Freelon collected a double-double, but the Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell to the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 60-50, on Wednesday evening at the United Supermarkets Arena.
For the Lady Raiders (16-10, 5-8 Big 12), Freelon recorded her fourth double-double of the year, and in her career, when she totaled 10 points and a career-high tying 13 rebounds against the Cowgirls (12-12, 5-8 Big 12).
Sophomore Jasmine Shavers tallied her 20th double-figure game of the year as she shot 7-of-14 from the field and scored a team-best 16 points. Junior Rhyle McKinney hit a couple of big 3-pointers in the game as she ended with nine points on the night with a steal and two rebounds.
Oklahoma State started the game on a 7-2 run as Shavers put up the first points for the Lady Raiders. McKinney connected with a free throw and then Loghan Johnson hit a 3-pointer for Tech, but the Cowgirls would score six of the next eight points of the quarter to lead by a 17-8 score.
In the second period, Oklahoma State scored the first layup, but Ashley Chevalier answered right back with one of her own while getting fouled on the shot for the and one. Tech wouldn't score for almost three minutes until Shavers scored a layup through traffic. Then, Saga Ukkonen connected with a mid-range jumper before the Cowgirls responded with an 8-0 run. Shavers ended their momentum, though, after posting a 5-0 run of her own. The Cowgirls would close out the half with the 35-21 advantage.
Oklahoma State began the second half on a 4-0 run until Freelon stopped it. Freelon then made another jumper to make the score 41-25. Both teams would not score for almost two minutes until McKinney hit another 3-pointer. Freelon would follow with a jumper and McKinney with another three to cut the deficit to 10. Oklahoma State would get a technical foul called at the end of the period, so Bailey Maupin went to the line and made a couple of free throws as Tech still trailed the Cowgirls, 48-37. Â
Shavers got another and one opportunity to begin the fourth quarter, converting the three points and getting the Lady Raiders within eight. However, Oklahoma State answered with a 3-pointer of their own for the 51-40 advantage. The Lady Raiders kept trying to chip away at the Cowgirls, but Oklahoma State would hold on to the lead as they won it by a score of 60-50. Â
