LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech men's tennis is on the road this weekend to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Tulsa Golden Hurricane at the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb. They'll play Nebraska on Friday, February 23 at 6 p.m., then Tulsa on Saturday, February 24 at 2 p.m.
The Red Raiders (5-4) are 14-7 in doubles matches to start the year but failed to capture the point in their last outing against UT Arlington. No. 39 Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak suffered their first dual loss to UTA's Dante Teramo and Torres Espinosa, but their record remains strong at 6-1. Â
No. 85 Olle Wallin is 8-5 in dual singles matches, dropping his last meeting with UTA's Torres Espinosa, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, on court one. Wallin had won three matches in a row before the defeat, each in straight sets as he now has a dual record of 5-2.Â
Abboud got the sole singles point for the Red Raiders against the Mavericks, defeating Yazid Lahjomri, 6-4, 7-6 (4), on court six. This moves Abboud to 3-2 in dual matches, making him one of five Red Raiders to hold a positive dual record on the season – Abboud, Wallin, Pawlak, Niksa Arsic and Reed Collier.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The No. 59 Nebraska Cornhuskers (6-4) look to defend their home court, where they are 5-1 on the year. Anton Shepp, primarily playing in the two spot, is 9-1 in singles matches this spring. He holds a ranked win against Alabama's No. 51 Enzo Aguiard, defeating him straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. The Red Raiders are 18-3 all-time against Nebraska, last meeting in 2019 when Texas Tech won 6-1 at home.
