
Lady Raiders back at home against Cincinnati

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders are back at home as they host the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday, February 24 at 2 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena.
Texas Tech (16-12, 5-10 Big 12) is coming off a heartbreaking loss to the No. 5-ranked Texas Longhorns in Austin. The Lady Raiders were led by both Jasmine Shavers and Bailey Maupin who scored 27 and 22 points, respectively. Shavers shot 10-of-19 from the field and 4-of-7 from the 3-point line while Maupin was 9-of-19 from the field while adding a team-best four assists. Jada Wynn recorded 10 points on the night followed by Kelly Mora's eight. In addition, the Longhorns posted their lowest margin of victory of the year in the 77-72 win.
The Lady Raiders shoot 76.4 percent from the free throw line, which is good for 45th in the NCAA and first in conference. They are also ranked 66th nationally and fifth in conference with 13.79 free throws made per game. In addition, Maupin checks in at 32nd nationally and third in the Big 12 with 112 free throws made.
Currently, the Lady Raiders have two players who average double-figure scoring in Big 12 play - Shavers (14.5) and Maupin (12.6). Jordyn Merritt averages over five rebounds per game with 5.8. In addition, Merritt leads with 16 blocks and Maupin leads with 46 assists in Big 12 games.Â
Texas Tech is forcing 19.00 turnovers per game which is good for 49th in the country and fourth in the Big 12. The Lady Raiders have forced 20 or more turnovers in 13 games so far, while forcing an average of 16.67 turnovers per game in conference play.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Cincinnati Bearcats are 12-14 on the season and 4-11 in conference play. Cincinnati has key wins over UCF and Oklahoma State, while also defeating the Lady Raiders on February 3. The Bearcats are on a four-game losing streak, dropping recent games to No. 23 Oklahoma, TCU, Kansas and BYU. As a team, Cincinnati ranks 32nd nationally in 3-point percentage defense as the team holds opponents to just 27.4 percent from behind the arc. The Cats also rank 14th in the NCAA with 15.81 free throws made per game and 19th with 14.8 offensive rebounds per game. Cincinnati has one player who is averaging double-figures as Jillian Hayes totals 12.8 points per game, followed by A'riel Jackson with 9.2. On the rebounding side, Hayes also leads with 8.7 per game and Malea Williams is just behind with 6.0.
