The Red Raiders fired a 1-under-par 287 in round three of the Chevron Collegiate, posting their third straight round under par en route to a fifth place finish at the Golf Club of Houston.
HUMBLE, Texas — The Texas Tech women's golf team concluded its third tournament of the spring season on Tuesday with a fifth-place finish at the Chevron Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston. The Red Raiders posted a final round 1-under-par 287 on Tuesday to finish the tournament 16 strokes under par (848), which followed a 1-under-par second round and a blistering 14-under-par to open the event during its first 36 holes on Monday.
Tech was paced throughout the tournament by Gala Dumez, who posted a 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday to finish the tournament 7-under-par (209), which earned her second top-20 finish of the season. The senior finished the tournament atop the Red Raider leaderboard, tying for 17th place out of 89 players. With Tuesday's 71, Dumez recorded three straight rounds under par for the first time this season.
Another Red Raider who fired three straight rounds under par was Lauren Zaretsky. The sophomore from Toronto, Canada posted a final round 1-under-par 71 to finish her tournament at 5-under-par and tied for 22nd place on the individual leaderboard. Undeterred by four bogeys on Tuesday, Zaretsky fired five birdies to clinch another solid performance, including three straight birdies on holes 12-14.
In addition to Dumez and Zaretsky posting rounds of 1-under-par, Texas Tech's other two scores countable towards the team total on Tuesday came from Maja Ambroziak and Klara Hurtova. Ambroziak fired four birdies on the back nine to finish her final round with an even-par 72. Despite a difficult opening 36 holes, Hurtova utilized three birdies on Monday to finish the final round with a 1-over-par 73. Ambroziak tied for 30th at 3-under-par for the tournament while Hurtova tied for 83rd at 13-over-par.Â
For just the second time this season, the Red Raiders recorded a team score under par in all three rounds of the tournament, a feat which had not been accomplished since the Sam Golden Invitational last September. Although Tech was able to avoid scores above par, they were unable to keep pace with the tournament champions from SMU, who fired a 10-under-par 278 on Tuesday to finish the tournament 33 strokes below par.
Texas Tech will return to action on March 30, following a month-long break, as they take part in the Bruzzy Challenge at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club in Ardmore, Okla.
