Red Raiders bounce back with sweep

Overbeck, McDonald dominate in final match of the weekend
LUBBOCK, Texas – Simone Overbeck set a career-high with 10 kills on .368 hitting percentage in the Red Raiders 3-0 sweep of Iona on Saturday. Aliyah McDonald was equally impressive on the defensive side with nine blocks while adding six kills on a .455 hitting percentage.
Texas Tech struggled a bit in set one to close rallies, but quickly changed that as they completely took over sets two and three winning 25-9 and 25-13, respectively, and jumped out to 10-1 leads to start both sets.
Reagan Leinen was the most efficient attacker of the day, finished with seven kills and no errors with a .583 hitting percentage. Mia Wesley added seven kills while freshmen Ava Olsen and Addie Kanouff recorded their first collegiate kills and finished with three and two, respectively.
Brynn Williams played in one set and added two kills while Emily Merrick, Elena Leontaridou and Hanna Borer combined for five kills.
Borer and Katelyn Cochran combined for 30 assists and six digs from the setter position.
On the backline, Maddie Correa finished with a game-high 18 digs as Abby Dickinson recorded nine of her own.
The Red Raiders held Iona to a -.031 hitting percentage and doubled them in up in total kills as they finished with 42 compared to the Gaels 21.
UP NEXT: Tech will have its home opener this coming weekend as they host the Red Raider Classic on September 5-7.
