Tech drops another close contest to No. 17 BYU

The Red Raiders fall 3-0 to No. 17 BYU in Provo
PROVO, Utah – The Texas Tech volleyball team (8-6, 0-2) fell to No. 17 BYU (9-3, 2-0) by scores of 16-25, 23-25, and 22-25 on Saturday afternoon at the Smith Fieldhouse. Aliyah McDonald let the way for Tech with eight kills and three to finish with 10.0 points.
Reagan Leinen, Simone Overbeck, Brynn Williams and Mia Wesley all finished with five kills as Emily Merrick added two to round out the major scorers for Tech.
Overbeck led the team defensively with seven digs and also finished with three aces. Setters Hanna Borer and Katelyn Cochran tallied 10 and 16 assists, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first set was all Cougars, but the second and third were as close as could be. Tech continued to fight and go on runs, but BYU was able to answer back each time.
Tech had a 14-10 lead in the third set as they tried to extend the match, but BYU would go on an 8-2 run to capture the lead and momentum heading into the final stretch.
NOTABLES:
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Maddie Correa finished with six digs and is now in the top 10 in program history for career digs.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Mia Wesley is now one of three active players with 200 aces and 1,800 kills in a career.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will return home to face Kansas State on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena.
