Correa eclipses 1,000 career digs as Red Raiders take down FAU

Hanna Borer and Reagan Leinen set new career highs in an impressive showing from Tech
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball (4-1) took a four-set win over Florida Atlantic (4-2) thanks to impressive stat lines from Mia Wesley, Reagan Leinen and Hanna Borer. Senior libero Maddie Correa eclipsed 1,000 digs during the third set of tonight's match and finished with 16.
Wesley led the team with 19 kills followed by Leinen with 13 and Brynn Williams with 11. Leinen set a career-high in serving aces with four while adding a team-high five blocks, six digs and led the team in points with 20.5 points.
Emily Merrick added nine kills on an efficient .318 hitting percentage. Borer finished with a career-high seven kills while hitting .636 percent and finishing with 44 assists and 16 digs for her second consecutive double-double.
Four Red Raiders ended up with double-digit digs including Emily Contreras (13), Abby Dickinson (13), Borer (16) and Correa (16).
The Owls took the first set 25-23 after hitting .417 percent on 16 kills. The Red Raiders rallied back, holding Florida Atlantic to hitting percentages of .108, .093 and .140 the final three sets. Tech hit .229 for the match and finished with 61 kills and 56 assists.
After dropping set one, Tech and Borer came out on firing in the second set. The junior had back-to-back kills to tie the set 10-10. Tech broke the tie with a 4-0 scoring run and ended up with a 16-11 lead against FAU, forcing a timeout. Florida Atlantic would score five of the next six points, but the Red Raiders fought back and won the set 25-19 thanks to Leinen's back-to-back service aces.Â
The third set went exactly as the Red Raiders had hoped for. After trailing 4-3 early, they scored the next nine out of 11 points and stayed ahead the rest of the set, winning 25-19.Â
In the fourth set, Tech made an early 4-0 run. Wesley had six kills in the set and helped the Red Raiders to a 25-21 win that was sealed by a Williams' kill.Â
