Red Raiders open season with home doubleheader

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders begin their season with a home doubleheader against the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Saturday, January 19 at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the Lubbock Country Club.
The Red Raiders competed in seven tournaments this fall, led in singles wins by Brody Nejedly-Krall with eight. Following him in singles was both Felipe Pagnacco and Sebastian Abboud with five wins each. In addition, Tyler Stewart and Piotr Pawlak earned ranked wins during the fall to lead the Red Raiders.
In doubles, the Red Raiders recorded seven wins in the fall as the duo of Nejedly-Krall and Pagnacco totaled a team-best two wins. Tech utilized nine different doubles teams combinations through the fall season and six of them recorded at least one victory.
The Red Raiders are returning five players this season in Abboud, Pawlak, Stewart, Niksa Arsic and Takeyasu Sekiguchi, four of which are seniors. Tech is also gaining four newcomers in Nejedly-Krall, Pagnacco, Ludovico Vaccari and Thiago Guglieri.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Eastern Illinois Panthers will open their season in Lubbock against the Red Raiders. Eastern Illinois competed in three fall tournaments this season, and most recently ended their EIU Fall Invitational with 23 overall wins (15 singles and eight doubles). Last year, the Panthers only recorded three wins in the season, coming against Illinois Wesleyan, Lindenwood and Southern Indiana. The Panthers have seven newcomers on the team this year with three letterwinners returning. Eastern Illinois also boasts a doubles team in the ITA rankings as Alex Aldaz Alviz and Ludolph Wiggett check in at No. 119.
