
Lady Raiders fall to Jayhawks in Lawrence

LUBBOCK, Texas – Two Lady Raiders scored in double-figures, but the Kansas Jayhawks defeated Texas Tech by a 56-50 score at Allen Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
Junior Jasmine Shavers posted her team-leading 19th double-figure scoring game after totaling 14 points, while adding four rebounds and a team-best three assists. Shavers recorded her team-leading sixth 3-plus steal game to lead Texas Tech (14-9, 3-7 Big 12) in that category as well as shot 50 percent from the 3-point line (2-for-4).
Junior Adlee Blacklock tallied her fourth double-figure scoring game this season against Kansas (14-7, 4-6 Big 12) after totaling 11 points while making a couple of threes. Sarengbe Sanogo was just behind with nine points on 4-for-5 shooting and led the way with five rebounds.
Bailey Maupin began the game with a triple at the 9:07 mark, then Loghan Johnson made a driving layup to lead 5-0. Johnson dished it to Denae Fritz right after for another three as Tech would hold an 8-0 advantage with 6:08 left in the period. The Jayhawks went on a 5-0 run before the media timeout to cut into the lead. The Lady Raiders were held scoreless for the remainder of the quarter as Kansas took a slim, 10-8 lead.
The Jayhawks scored first in the second quarter to force a Texas Tech timeout with 8:41 left. The Lady Raiders were able to force a Kansas turnover, then turn that into points when Shavers nailed a 3-pointer. Johnson regave Tech the lead when she made a tough layup at the 6:05 mark to make it 13-12. The Lady Raiders held Kansas scoreless for over four minutes before the Jayhawks made a layup for a 14-13 advantage. Blacklock converted a successful and-one play to make it 16-14, but the Jayhawks answered with two free throws to tie it. Kansas ended the quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 20-16 lead into the half.
Kilah Freelon started the second half with the first bucket between both teams after grabbing an offensive rebound and getting an easy layup. Kansas scored the next four points to hold the 24-18 advantage with 6:19 left in the period. Shavers was able to connect with a couple of free throws, then scored a step-back three before Sanogo got a bucket of her own to cut the deficit to two, 27-25, before the media timeout. Blacklock made it a one-point game when she made a wide-open three, but the Jayhawks scored the next four points. Shavers stole the ball on the other end and made a fastbreak layup to make it 32-30 at the 2:27 mark as Kansas led heading into the fourth.
Both teams went scoreless for the first two and a half minutes of the final quarter until Kansas got a basket. Shavers responded with a tough layup through traffic to make it 35-32 in KU's favor. Getting another steal on the Kansas side, Shavers was able to get fouled on the layup attempt and converted both free throws for a one-point deficit. The Jayhawks immediately made a layup to go ahead, but Maupin tied things at 37-all when she hit a 3-pointer. Kansas scored another layup right before Sanogo answered with an easy one right under the backet for a 39-39 score. Blacklock scored to take a 41-39 lead, then both teams traded points to tie the game at 42-all. Kansas was able to get a bucket right after for the lead, before Sanogo grabbed an o-board and put it back up to retie the game. Kansas was able to take a 50-45 lead before Blacklock hit another three to get into double figures. However, the Jayhawks went on a 4-0 run to lead 53-48 with 29 seconds left. The Lady Raiders made it a four-point game with a Sanogo bucket, but Kansas held on to win it by a 57-50 score.
