Volleyball heads to Orlando to take on the Knights
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders (8-12, 0-8) will travel to Orlando to face UCF (12-7, 3-5) on Saturday at noon CT time in The Venue.
Both teams are coming off five-set matches on Wednesday night as the Knights defeated Houston 3-2 in Houston while the Red Raiders fell 3-2 to No. 24 Colorado.
Tech got stellar performances from freshmen Kalli Jioshvili Ravva and Kenna McKenzie who posted 25 and 16 kills, respectively. Jioshvilli Ravva also added 17 digs to pick up her fourth double-double of the season. Peyton Dunn also got her fourth double-double of the season thanks to 30 assists and 12 digs.
Quick Hits:
Addie Kanouff has been Tech's best and most consistent hitter throughout the season. The 6'5 sophomore has taken a huge leap in her second season after appearing in just five sets last year. Kanouff leads the team in kills and points and is second in hitting percentage, boasting an efficient .249 clip. Defensively she has also made an impact, recording 44 blocks on the year, good for second best on the team.
Freshman outside hitter Kalli Jioshvili Ravva was incredible in her first weekend in Lubbock, Texas. She recorded back-to-back double doubles against Ole Miss and Incarnate Word. The French native tallied 54 kills in the Red Raider Classic including 22 against Ole Miss, which made her the first Red Raider this season to eclipse the 20-kill mark. She got it done on defense as well, recording a career-high 21 digs against Incarnate Word to help her finish the weekend with 40 digs.
Reagan Engler is a star. The junior has moved to outside hitter this offseason in an effort to convert her to a six-rotation player, something she's never done in her career. In her first match in this new role she recorded her first career double-double and notched career highs in kills (16) and digs (10). Engler was named the MVP of the FAU Tournament after totaling 42 kills, 24 digs and 5.0 blocks. Her impact was felt both in her play and leadership as she was vocal in correcting her teammates when needed and also praising them when they made the adjustments.
Sierra Grizzle is one of the top liberos in the conference as she has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week twice and leads the Big 12 in digs per set (4.66) and total digs (368). The junior transfer from Wyoming is also the team leader in aces with 21.
