Bristow records double-double in win over Monarchs

FRISCO, Texas – Junior Jalynn Bristow recorded a double-double to help lead the Texas Tech Lady Raiders to a win over the Old Dominion Monarchs, 67-42, on Tuesday evening at the Comerica Center in the Hoopfest Challenge.

Bristow tallied 18 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in the game as she led Texas Tech (8-0) in both categories. She also scored a career-best four 3-pointers and added two steals, one block and an assist against Old Dominion (5-2). Jada Malone scored her second-straight double-digit performance with a season-high of 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field (.545). Malone also collected six boards, an assist and a block in the game.

Snudda Collins was in double-figures for her eighth-consecutive game as she totaled 10 points while adding two assists. Gemma Núñez led the way with five assists, while recording five rebounds, two steals and four points. Sarengbe Sanogo totaled five points, four rebounds, two steals and led the team with three blocks. The Lady Raiders held the Monarchs to just 27.3 percent from the field (15-for-55), forced 24 turnovers and outrebounded Old Dominion 48 to 37.

Bristow began the game with a triple. Both teams didn't score for a couple minutes until Sanogo made two free throws. The Lady Raiders grabbed a few steals which led to more free throws, this time from Bailey Maupin, for a 7-0 lead. Old Dominion got its first points at the 5:51 mark with free throws, then added a jumper on the next possession. It was a low-scoring quarter as Tech got a driving layup from Collins then another 3-pointer from Bristow right at the end of the period for a 12-6 advantage.

Bristow continued her run, scoring the first five points of the second quarter within a minute and a half of play to force a Monarch timeout. At the 7:06 mark, Old Dominion scored its first points of the period with a free throw, but the Lady Raiders went on a 7-0 run highlighted by a three from Núñez and a fastbreak layup from Denae Fritz. The Monarchs got a bucket to end the run, then Malone responded with a layup thanks to a dish from Sidney Love. The Monarchs went on a 7-2 run after this to cut into the Tech advantage, but the Lady Raiders would lead 31-18 to end the half.

Sanogo converted a successful and-one play into three points to start the third quarter. Old Dominion answered with the next five points, but Tech got another 3-pointer from Bristow to spark a 9-0 run over the next two minutes leading into the media timeout. The Monarchs scored at the 3:38 mark and didn't score again for the remainder of the quarter as Tech closed out the period out on a 9-0 run thanks to buckets from Collins and Bristow, leading ODU by a 52-25 score.

Collins extended the run to 12-0 when she nailed a corner three to begin the final period. Old Dominion scored the next four points, forcing a Texas Tech timeout with 7:48 left. Afterwards, both teams traded points for the next minute as Tech would lead, 60-33. With three minutes left in the game, Julie Nekolná scored her first career points with a putback layup. Then, Adlee Blacklock got a steal and a fastbreak layup, and immediately followed it up with a block on the other end to keep the momentum for the Lady Raiders as they would win it, 67-42.
