Tech competes at Hoopfest Challenge in Frisco

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders compete at the Hoopfest Women's Basketball Challenge on Nov. 25-27 at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Texas Tech faces Old Dominion on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., before playing North Texas on Thursday at 2 p.m.
Tech is 1-3 all-time against the Monarchs, dropping the last three contests against Old Dominion. The Lady Raiders are 11-2 all-time against the Mean Green, with their last win coming on Dec. 2, 2001 by a 63-53 score.
The Lady Raiders earned their first road win of the season after defeating the New Mexico Lobos in Albuquerque, N.M., on Sunday by an 82-57 score. In the game, Jalynn Bristow led the team in points (16), rebounds (7), steals (3) and blocks (3). Snudda Collins also led in points with 16 points and added four rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Bailey Maupin totaled 15 points on 4-for-7 shooting (.571) and four assists. In addition, leading the team in assists was Gemma Núñez with eight, her fifth time leading the Lady Raiders in assists this season.
Texas Tech is currently 7-0 on the season. During the Coach Gerlich era, the Lady Raiders are 36-2 in the month of November. They went 8-1 in 2024-25; 8-0 in 2023-24; 5-1 in 2022-23; 6-1 in 2021-22; and 2-0 in 2020-21.
Bristow is in a league of her own this season. She is the only player in the country to average at least 16.5 points per game and total at least 15 blocks, 50 rebounds and 10 3-pointers. Bristow ties for the team lead with 16.6 points per game and she also leads the Lady Raiders in rebounds (51) and blocks (18). Currently, Bristow ranks seventh nationally and first in the Big 12 in blocks, while ranking 15th nationally in field goal attempts.
Collins is having a great start to the season as she ties for the team lead in points per game with 16.6. Collins is one of three players in the nation coming off the bench in every game played so far and leading her team in scoring (MiLaysia Fulwiley, LSU, 17.7ppg; Tierney Kelsey, Indiana State, 17.6ppg). Collins currently ranks 24th in points (116) and 25th in field goal attempts (91) nationally. She has scored in double-figures in each game so far with a season best of 20 points coming against Texas State.
Maupin has been a consistent force for the Lady Raiders. The third leading scorer on the team with 16.1 points per game, Maupin has recorded double-digit scoring in six of seven games this year with a season-high of 26 points against SMU. In Tech's win over Mississippi State last Thursday, Maupin led the team with a career-high of nine rebounds and added 17 points, three assists and two steals in the game. Maupin ranks 10th nationally in free throws with 34 made. In Texas Tech history, Maupin is the 12th leading scorer with 1,420 career points, while ranking fifth in free throws made (391) and in free throw attempts (470).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Old Dominion is 5-1 on the season, with key wins over East Carolina, Delaware and William & Mary. The Monarchs' lone loss was to UMass on Nov. 3 by a 52-58 score. Old Dominion is averaging 74.2 points per game and holding opponents to 54.0 points per game. Shooting 37.6 percent from the field, the Monarchs total 49.3 rebounds per game and 12.8 steals per game. There are three players averaging double-digit scoring in Simaru Fields (12.7ppg), Simone Cunningham (12.3ppg) and En'Dya Buford (11.2ppg). Cunningham also leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per game, followed by Laila Walker with 6.2.
North Texas is 4-1 so far, with wins over Oklahoma Christian, Grambling State, SMU and Nelson University. The Mean Green's one loss came against Abilene Christian, 51-60. North Texas is averaging 81.2 points per game and holding opponents to 50.0 points per game. Shooting 47.7 percent from the field, the Mean Green totals 44.6 rebounds per game and 13.8 assists per game. North Texas is led in scoring by Aysia Proctor (13.0ppg), Megan Nestor (12.2ppg) and Tionna Lidge (10.6ppg). Nestor also averages 11.0 rebounds per game to lead the team.
